I got accepted in RISD and Art Center, and I am having hard time to decide which school I want to go. I know both of them are great school. I went to visit both school, I like RISD a lot, beacuse I like the school enviorment and their program. After I got accepted by Art Center, I have second thought. I live in southern CA and art center is just the next city in my home, and Art center cost less than RISD. My parents would like me to stay CA, but they respect my chooice.

I want to be in Iiustration major and want to be more into Digital and entertainment area. I know if I focus more in entertainmemt area, it will be better to stay in Los Angeles area. On the other hand, I want to expore more, I am sure there are many diffence between east coast and west coast.

My son just started as a freshman at RISD. He's majoring in Illustration and absolutely loves the school, his teachers, and the city of Providence. I know it sounds corny, but he actually said he was looking forward to getting back to school after winter break. He's found a great group of friends and seems to be having fun too. What more could a mom ask for?

I can't speak to the digital aspects of his work, and probably for that specifically, you might find more resources in LA.

Both are excellent art+design schools and you will get a good education at either. That being said, each school has different strengths. RISD is generally acknowledged to have much stronger programs in the fine arts than ACC. RISD also requires students to take far more liberal arts classes in its curriculum. On the other hand, ACC has some very specialized programs like entertainment design and transportation design that RISD just can't compete with. What are you planning to major in?

Sorry, I hadn't see Post #3 above. If you are really sure you want to focus in digital media and/or entertainment design, then I would say that ACC is probably the better choice for you (which kills me to say that, as I'm a RISD mom!). But ACC does have stronger programs in those particular areas, plus it has better connections with the Southern California entertainment industry.

It is true that there are many differences between New England and southern California -- not only the obvious climate change, but also significant cultural differences. My son -- who is now a senior at RISD -- thrived on those differences. (He's an Arizona native.) He loves Providence and especially the funky, artsy vibe on College Hill (where RISD and Brown are located). He got a great education at RISD and has really blossomed as a designer there. So you might love it too!

But I heard there are many of Movie companies in NYC. Some of my friends told me that if I go to design school, I should go to east coast, it is better enviorment in east coast.

I agree with worried mom. I have a sophmore at RISD and she loves it. However, I feel your best contacts and programs will be at the Art Center.
