hey kutumalu…do you know what gpa the people had (the ones that you know that got in?)

I have no idea whether they notify by mail or email, but the girl in facebook said that she recieved an EMAIL. so i guess we will be notified by email

I just got an email from daad saying that I didnt get the the internship. they said that if anyone rejects the internship that I MIGHT be able to get a spot before april the 15.

Screw that!

At least now I can be at peace! Good luck to you guys. Oh here is a copy of the email so u guys can see what it looks like:

Dear RISE-Applicant,
Thank you for your recent application to the RISE program in Germany. Due to the overwhelming number of applications we received this year, which culminated in 1200 applications, we are unfortunately not able to offer you an internship placement at this time. There were far more qualified candidates than positions, so this decision does not in any way reflect adversely on your academic credentials or research agenda. The decision had to be made on the basis of limited funds and places available for this highly competitive program. Should already admitted candidates withdraw their application it can be the case that applicants who have been informed that they will not receive any RISE scholarship will move up. All alternates will be informed by April 15th at the latest.

I wish I had seen this thread earlier! I was dying of anticipation for most of March waiting for a reply, and then thinking I didn’t get it. However, I did get an email saying that I’m got accepted, but they can’t give me a stipend, and I’d have to fund myself (which I can’t afford!) Such an unexpected and disappointing result. Did anyone else get this? What are you going to do? And why do they open up positions when they can’t afford it???

You should check with your university in the U.S. to see if they will fund you. I know people last year who went to Europe to do summer research and got around $3,500 through the Dean’s Office and career services.

Hey guys… I’m really sorry to hear you didn’t get it, I did get accepted, but this is the only one out of like 10 that I applied to so far, so I know it sucks to do all that work and then get rejected :-(

Anyway, my GPA is 3.5, so they must not have a cutoff necessarily. I know I worked really hard on my coverletters, so that may have played some part, but it’s not really clear that it did. I think your chances of admission depend greatly on which projects/cities you apply to - so if you applied to one in say, Berlin, you may have been competing against 40 people, whereas if you applied to a more obscure place/project you would be competing against 1-3 people.

I got notified around March 12-13th. Anyway, I really hope you get another internship that you will be happy with! Good luck.

haha, yeah, my gpa was 3.1 (lol), so there definitely wasn’t a cutoff. but obviously, i was pretty low in the pack of the accepted. i thought the whole ranking by gpa thing was ********, because because there are so many factors that go into gpa, namely the rigor and competition of the school (as well as major, but i guess we’ll mostly be competing against people of our own majors). i would have preferred to let post docs pick all the positions themselves.
