I just finished my sophomore year with a 3.79 unweighted gpa and a 3.90 weighted gpa. I took 3 honors classes (pre calc, chem, and U.S history) and the rest were regular classes (English 2, Chinese 3, orchestra, seminar). I have been researching with my parents for over a year for physical therapy programs on the east coast and Boston University is my first choice so far. Next year I am taking 2 AP classes (AP Bio, AP Calc AB) and the rest regular. I know my limitations and I think a balance of 2 rigorous courses with slightly less challenging classes is best for my stress level. Additionally, I do go to a good prep school where the classes are much harder than public school. Considering that I keep up my averages and keep consistent grades or even excel in junior year, is it possible for me to get into BU?
I think extracurricular activities. and being active and taking on leadership roles in those you do participate in, will greatly enhance your chances of getting in. As far as grades go, I had a 3.85 unweighted and took all honors and AP classes junior and senior year and was the head of 3 clubs. However, depending on your test scores I think you have a good chance of getting into BU but you might want to make your application slightly more competitive if you are looking to get into a certain program.
First of all, have you taken SAT/ACT yet and if so, what were your scores? Additionally, are you planning to go for the 3 + 3 DPT program? If so, you can take a look at the curriculum for those first years and plan your high school classes accordingly. For example, if your school offers psychology, it might be helpful to take it just to get a heads up on what the material in college might be like. I would recommend taking psychology, physics, and statistics maybe your senior year. Do you also shadow or volunteer at a physical therapy clinic? One of the most important things is making sure that physical therapy really suits you and that you show interest in it. You are much more likely to be admitted if you put in a number of hours at a clinic. Nonetheless, the physical therapy program at BU is very selective, so there’s no guarantee. Are you looking at any other schools?
I hope this helps and I wish you well!
