I do think this is all. If I missed any vital info just let me know.

Thank you very much for taking your time to read this, it means a lot.

You need to calculate your CSU/UC GPA see the link: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
You have a good SAT and looks like a good GPA around a 3.9?, but being from a “competitive high school” you have few AP classes especially in the sciences and math. Since your prospective major is Engineering, you really need more rigorous classes your Senior year.

UCLA/UCB/UCSB/Harvey Mudd: Reach
SLO: Low Reach
Santa Clara/UCI: Match
CPP: Match

I would consider UCR since they have a guaranteed admission program, see link: http://vcsaweb.ucr.edu/Admissions/WhyUCR/ourGuarantee</a>
You need a UC GPA of 3.9 and SAT of 1700 to qualify.
Also check into CSULB and SJSU

@Gumbymom
Why is UCSB a reach, but UCI is only a match? I think UCSB and UCI should be low reaches.
I thought the UCR guaranteed admission program only requires an SAT score of 1600. But, I doubt narcissistic can qualify because of his low GPA.

@narcissistic
Those six Bs in your sophomore year will be devastating for you.

Forgot to add UCD, where do you guys think it falls in? Match/ Low reach?

Also why do you guys think SB is a low reach for me? Is my GPA my weakest link? Will my grades senior year before applications affect anything?

Many thanks.

Edit: My weighted GPA is 3.9 and my uw 3.8 according to Naviance.

Sorry, UCSD would be a low reach. UCSB would be a Match and UCD would be a match if your GPA is close to 4.0 or higher. Your weakest link is your class rigor. If your school offers many AP’s and you do not take them, it will hurt. If your school only offers a few AP classes than you should be OK. Admissions will look at your senior schedule but grades will only count once you are accepted and you need to maintain at 3.0 or higher GPA for the UC’s. Some schools will ask for Mid-year grades in case you are borderline or confirm you are maintaining the same GPA.
Also, the UCR GAP program only requires an SAT of 1600. Sorry, so many mistakes tonight.

Okay I understand that my class rigor is my weakest link. But I guess there is not much I can do now seeing as junior year is over. For some reason I feel like I need to explain myself (probably because of the crazy high expectations at my school) but I chose not to go overboard on AP’s and Honors as I felt it would be better to take a few and get B’s rather than take a bunch and get C’s. In retrospect I do think that I made the right decision, especially with soccer and racing being nearly year round.

SD, SB and the CP’s are my top choices with SD at the highest if I had to pick one, so here’s to hoping! :slight_smile:

Oh and don’t worry about mistakes! I’m just thankful that people like you are posting their thoughts and opinions, its very helpful.

What is your prospective major? ( I am sorry if it is in this thread, but I can’t find it) Cal Poly SLO chances will depend on major.

I plan to major in some form of engineering, hopefully mechanical or electrical. However, I do realize these are impacted at many schools and am open to other engineering majors.

I see that was in your first post so I don’t know how I missed it. Mech and boomed are both difficult to get into at cal poly, so those would be reaches for you even though you are a strong student. Electrical would be a match I think.
