Rising senior finalizing college list

Hi guys,
I am a rising senior, and I am trying to finalize my college list so that I can visit the places that I need to visit and get as much of the application work as I can out of the way before school starts!

I live in North Carolina, and I want to be a Classics Professor. I would like to go to a medium or large university in an urban or suburban setting. I have run the net price calculators for every school on this list and talked about them with my parents.

Here are my (expected) stats:
SAT: 2100 – 2200
SAT II: US History: 800 or close to it, World History: 800 or close to it (took these in June)
AP: Environmental Science 4 or 5, US History 4 or 5, English Language 4, Latin 4 or 5, English Literature 4, US Government 4 or 5, Chemistry 3 or 4, Statistics 3 or 4
GPA: 3.7
Class Rank: 15 out of 300+ (Top 5% of class)
Extra curriculars: Eagle Scout, Vice Chief of Administration in local OA Lodge (head administrator for over 1000 people), Founder and Captain of Debate team (currently undefeated), NHS, Regional Science Fair winner, and a part time job. I will have well over 200 volunteer hours when I graduate.

Reach Schools:
University of Chicago (Early Action)
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Rice

Low Reach:
Tufts

Match:
UNC Chapel Hill (My counselor says I have a very good shot here, I am in state) (Early Action)
USC
Boston College

Safety:
UNC Asheville (No one of my stats from my school has ever been rejected, it is affordable, and they have my major) (Early Action)

Is there any school you can think of that would fit my desired specs and has a good Classics program? I’m not keen on Duke, and I’ll visit Emory this summer. Tulane is too expensive for me, otherwise they would be nice. Other than that, the Ivies seem even reachier than U Chicago; I don’t feel good about applying to them, but my family is pressuring me to apply to all of them because a girl last year did that and got into Cornell.

I am also a rising senior, so I can only suggest.

If distance is not an issue, then I think the UC’s have solid classics programs. Visiting them this Summer would be hard, though. If you get accepted in the early action round to UNC, then you could apply to as many Ivies as you want, although Cornell would be the one to focus on. Also, you could look into Haverford (probably too small) and UVA (hard admittance for OOS).

Good luck!

All I can say is, good job on how you are going about making your application list, since you (a) have identified a solid safety, (b) have checked cost and financial aid at you candidate schools, and (c) have three EA applications which means that an early favorable decision at any of them turns that school into a safety.

johns hopkins might be a good fit for you. we have a pretty strong classics program with very small class sizes and lots of individual attentions from profs. Your stats are within the mid 50% range. it is still a reach school, but you might be helped by the fact that the school is always looking to recruit more humanities majors

JHU is one for me to visit this summer. My friend is from Baltimore and likes it there, so hopefully I will too. JHU is a little more expensive than my family can afford, but I am applying for lots of scholarships - maybe one will pay off and open this up as an option.

I think Davidson has a classics department. Don’t know about Wake Forest.

Actually, Tulane sometimes gives generous merit awards and has EA so it may be worth checking into.
