My school does not offer Calculus to students, thus I will not be taking Calc till either my freshman year at college or the summer before college (community college credits, possibly). I know people say it is useless to take Math 1, but I feel this is only true if you have taken the classes necessary to take Math 2. Is it useless for me to take Math 1, even though it’s the highest Math subject test I qualify for? My Alg 2 class did very minimal Trig, and I obviously haven’t taken Pre-Calc yet, so I’m missing a large part of skills for the Math 2 test. I’m just looking for a 2nd subject test. I already have taken World History and gotten a 780. I’m either going to take USH, Math 1, or both in Novemeber. Any ideas?
Hi!
I’m also a rising senior, and I am not taking Calc. I had taken the Math 1 junior year while taking Pre-Calc, and received a 700. On the test itself, most of the topics covered were of Geometry and Algebra, with a very minor sprinkling of Pre-Calc (at most it’ll be helpful to know the Unit Circle…but not required). Knowing formulas like the distance, mid-point, quadratic formula, etc. are helpful. There is trig on the test, but minimal.
I recommend taking both USH and Math 1.
And have you considered Bio E/M?
Yeah, my class covered mostly the Unit Circle and some trig identities. I’ll probably go with USH and Math 1.
The disadvantage of Math I is the harsher curve - Math II is a bit more advanced but you can miss a few questions and score 800. Still not sure why though, as an 800 only puts you around the 85th percentile…
