I also think that any program will have transfers. I think someone may find out acting isn’t the career for them and thus want to transfer. It may not be the schools fault or a bad program, but lots of kids change majors. Also, some kids may end up and not like the program. My feedback.

I am going to be sophomore in the BFA acting program at Purchase next year, so if you have any questions feel free to PM me. We only had one student cut from our class, but it was a complicated, unusual, and very particular situation.

My son is a returning sophmore too. There is no doubt that this is an elite program. He realizes that a BFA in Acting from Purchase is SIGNIFICANT and not easily achieved.

Back to the issue of safeties, don’t forget your local community college as an alternative to a gap year if you’re of the mind that you won’t be happy with anything but a selective BFA in the long run. Why spend a bunch of money going to a four year university from which you have no intention of graduating when you can go ahead and take care of your freshman level gen eds for a fraction of the price? A lot of kids where I’m from are now electing to do this as a first option to save money and then transfer sophomore or even junior year when they’re ready to declare a major or concentrate on a preselected one. Some report that the teaching is sometimes better than what you’ll get at a State U, etc. where you’re as likely to get an inexperienced grad student or a bored/disinterested professor who’d rather be doing something else than teaching freshman level courses. Just something else to consider …
