OK, let me add my schools. I look like a failure in comparison to you guys.

I’ve already asked for 4 recs, so I’m set in that category. I’ve put some thought into my essay, but I’ll wait until things settle down a bit this summer before I start writing.

At this point in the college process, I like:

-Duke
-Brown
-Dartmouth
-Bucknell
-UVA
-UNC
-Cornell
-Dickinson
-UMASS

bump

How many schools do you think is too many?

I won’t apply to any more than twelve, but that’s just my opinion. I don’t think I know of anyone that applied to more than that many.

I realized today while having a conversation that I really don’t care where I end up going to school. At a certain point they’re all so similar and I just want someone to decide for me and sign me up.

As of now, my list:
REACH:
Dartmouth
Cornell
Davidson
Washington & Lee
MATCH:
Richmond
Wake Forest
Colgate
Furman
SAFETY:
Penn State
Maryland
Delaware

Any one of those schools is fine with me, and I don’t really care to choose between them

Schools I’m looking for

NYU (ED)
if i dont get in there
Boston U
American
GWU
Gtown
Boston C
Brown
Northeastern
University of Rochester
Columbia
UVA (to appease my mother)

I’m trying too hard no to worry about it yet. Probably start after I visit Boston at the end of July, that’ll probably get me pumped.

IDK when I am going to do everything. This summer I have to start these Apps at some point, and I have three assignments : Reading “The Help” for english class and writing a paper on it, Reading “The Bone Collector” for Forensics class and writing a paper on it, and reading the first 3 chapters and taking notes for AP Psych. I want to be a kid and have a fun summer too!!!

Colleges I’m thinking about applying to:

Maryland
Penn St
Syracuse
Miami (I want to go here the most but right now my mother is not allowing me to go because it is too far away from here (NJ) )
Tulane (^ ditto)
Reaches: Michigan, NYU

I just had the college talk with my parents. They want me to apply to all six private reach schools on my list  . My dad also wants to see a few more small schools, but this actually may work out in my favor after acceptances come in because I think I should be able to spin things nicely. So, the new application list is a frightening 14 schools long:
I may drop Ohio State for UOklahoma.

I’ve narrowed my list down to the following schools (in order of preference):

M.I.T.
UChicago
UC Berkeley
Stanford
Harvey Mudd
Rice
U of Wisconsin - Madison
UCLA
Reed
UCSD
UMD-College Park
Ohio State
Georgia Tech
Cal Poly SLO

I’m probably going to cut down the list further by 2 or 3 schools. We’ll see.

Cornell
John Hopkins
WUSTL
Rice
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
UC Davis

The list will expand in July or August.

^ no love for UCLA? :D

I guess not. I concede that UCLA is a good school, even better than UC Davis, but I don’t think I would like to go there.

What do you plan to major in?

I plan to major in Chemistry and minoring in Mathematics or possibly double majoring it.

Just thought I’d bump this to see if anyone has made any progress on essay writing or any new decisions on schools. I already sent in my ED application to Wake Forest (dream school type thing…), anyone getting ready to apply or in the middle of an application? I think the common app is officially released tomorrow, is anyone planning on breaking into it yet?

wow you already sent your app?

Yeah… Wake is rolling admission and I was sure that it was my #1 choice, so I figured I would just send it and know my admission status sooner rather than later. I also thought that if I were to get deferred or denied, this would give me more time to complete applications to other schools without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. I’ll hopefully be finding out by the end of August whether I was admitted to Wake or not. It sounded like the best way to go about applying, since I was so sure of my top choice. Last but not least, I at least figured that the applicant pool would be very slim right now so perhaps my application will look better? I don’t know… I just really want to be accepted so I’m applying in the way that I think will give me the best shot at that :)

Sending in my rolling app to my in-state safety sometime late August, and ill be writing my Common App essay/other supplements all August.

What a difference a month makes. I finally convinced my parents that the previous list was simply too much and in return made some concessions myself for a list of nine:

MIT
Stanford
Georgia Tech
Cornell
Purdue
Wisconsin
Northwestern
Minnesota
U Tulsa

I’m still pushing for U Alberta and U Oklahoma, and my parents are advocating for Rice and Lehigh. We might end up compromising with one of each set…?

wow, can’t believe the commonapp becomes available TOMORROW
i’ve finalized my list to…
george mason.
vcu.
old dominion.
jmu.
radford.

i MIGHT apply to texas tech, because all of my mom’s family lives down there and she’s thinking of moving to tx next year, so who knows !

My list is:

UCLA
UCSD
USC
WashU
Duke
Rice
Cornell

Started essays in July and finished for 4 schools
