Rising Sophomore taking questions

Q: Do we need any books on the first day? (ex: notebooks, folders, etc…)
A: Bring them if you have them. If not, it usually isnt a big deal. You can usually find someone who has the book and share with them if you do end up needing it. The first day is most likely going to be a syllabus/getting to know each other/how the class is going to work kind of day. I wouuld bring a notebook to take notes in, though, just in case.

Do people generally take notes in class in a notebook or on a laptop?

Q: Do people generally take notes in class in a notebook or on a laptop?
A: Usually a laptop, but if the professor doesnt allow it, notebook.

Do you recommend buying football season pass or paying for tickets individually? Which ones safer?

Ok, first of all, is there an all you can eat diner?

south st diner to name one

Q: Do you recommend buying football season pass or paying for tickets individually? Which ones safer?
A: As a freshman, get the season pass. later in the year if you cant make a game for some reason (finish a paper, study, etc.) you always have the option to sell it to another student or if a friend’s friend is visiting on game day. if you’re not into football that much, maybe get the tickets individually, but for freshmen it’s sort of a bonding/social thing.

would i be at a huge disadvantage if i took general courses first semester of freshmen year especially if i’m premed. Would graduate / med schools really “punish” you for that ?

I’m taking classes like MT 100, gen chem and ecology, which are all general classes

sorry for asking so many questions, but thank you very much!

Course selection for premed depend on whether you want to apply to med school at the end of your Junior Year or after your Senior year. Check the BC Catalog for a discussion, starting on page 28. Also visit the BC premed website for course ideas.

fwiw: unless you are an Ecology major, that course sounds like a waste of time. You’ll cover that material – and more – in General Bio II. Take other Core courses instead, such as English/Writing, History, foreign language…

I’m guessing TVs plug into the wall using coax cables, is there one in the room or do I need to pick one up?

Im trying to send a package but I heard that BC doesn’t allow UPS packages to be shipped to my student address. What should I do? Can I make it work?

of course BC mail room accepts UPS (and Fedex and USPS) packages. Just follow the directions for the correct mail room:

[Mail Services - Facilities Management - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/offices/facilities/facservices/admin/mail.html)

Im worried because I read “Vendors such as UPS and Federal Express are not allowed in the residence halls” what does this mean? Im confused

Mohamed-It just means that UPS/FedEx cannot deliver directly to your residence hall/room. Packages are delivered to the BC mailroom then the mailroom notifies you that you have a package waiting.

Ortsac-You need to bring your own cable to hook your television in.

so if i get in i was planning on going pre med with a major in math…but im not sure if i should do applied math or math theory or if tehy are even both offered as majors, any advice?

i also want to minor in spanish! too much of a workload?

mchs:

if you have some AP credits to fulfill Core requirements, you could be ok.

A math major is 10+ courses.

A minor is 6+ courses. (The plusses include any prereqs.)

Typical premed is 8 science courses, 2 English courses, and 2 math courses. Some med schools also require Biochem and Genetics, but all will start requiring Biochem in a couple of years.

Without AP credits for things like history/Art, your schedule could get pretty tight.

Not sure if anyone knows this, but can we only bring one car to move-in day? I might need two, with everything I’m bringing…

So I think this was asked already, but are bed risers built in to the frames? How high exactly do they go? The space under the bed is definitely going to be crucial so when I saw “metal bed risers” on list of things to bring from my RD, I wasn’t sure whether to buy them or not.

bluebayo: so far i have a 3 in worl hist, a 5 in us history and a 5 in ab calc. Im taking bc calc, poli sci, english, biology, and physics c this year

Patsgirl: You can bring two cars. I did as a freshman on upper campus and while it’s annoying with all the traffic up there, two cars is necessary sometimes. I did two cars as well for my sophomore year at 66.

on the book store website one of my classes comes up with two options for books, one has books from the previous year like it says 7 books in past and then it has a second option listed as my course but with an eleven after it like 07006,11. what does this mean? what set of books should i get?
