thanks! and so that means every test taken you send the date and report the score? ugghhhh! darn standardized testing! oh and do you know about the financial aid they offer. it says 100% of demonstrated need…i’m not exactly sure what that means…

What was your freshman dorm and how did you like it? Did you choose your roommate through Charms and did you become good friends?

@ gurkaur: there’s a fin aid calculator online somewhere that tells you what your demonstrated need is.

@mompop: I lived in VCW, which is the only freshman dorm in which each room has its own bathroom so needless to say it was really convenient. Although, the rooms were small and we had to clean it ourselves. I chose a roommate through Charms and it worked out really well, we have different groups of friends but we’re nonetheless quite close.

You’ll have to forgive me. What is charms? What are pros and cons of freshmen dorms?
Do some people go for random roommate?
What are some of active clubs.

@murphy600: Charms is the roommate matching system at georgetown. These are the four:
VCW: I lived here, has its on bathrooms, but you have to clean it, usually rooms are smaller too.
Harbin: bigger rooms, there are clusters of rooms together that facilitates bonding among those groups.
Darnall: Big rooms, but far away from everything on campus
New South: The biggest/best rooms. Has a sink in your room. Biggest freshman dorm, and definitely the party dorm.

Note: you don’t get to choose the dorm you want, you’re randomly placed.

Hey motivated_101! I’m an incoming sophomore transfer student, and I was wondering - do you know if there are any dorm or dorms where transfers are normally placed? Or is it more or less random? Personally, I would prefer an apartment over a dorm, but if housing at Georgetown is anything like it was at my previous school, apartments probably fill up pretty quickly. Any idea on those odds?

@emaytay212: Unless youre pulled in by people in apartments, you’re most likely going to be placed in VCE. VCE’s a good dorm, the rooms are kinda small but each room has its own bathroom.

@motivated Thanks for responding! I figured as much. When you say “own bathroom,” do you mean each individual room has one or that two adjacent rooms share one?

I’m also curious how the lottery process works for our courses. I’ve already pre-registered, and I wanted to know - do people normally get into all of their requested courses/times? Also, do you have any idea whether transfers and freshman are lumped together or go through separate processes? Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide!

Hey man, I was wondering if you knew anything about the SFS essay (the one about an International Problem and solutions you propose to deal with it)? Specifically I was wondering if you knew whether it was important for the applicant to “connect” in some way to the International Affairs topic, or if they are trying to gauge our skills at writing an analytical essay? Also, for the activities essay: I was wondering if you made yours artsy or if you just put direct information and content about your activity (since they said they wanted half a page only which doesn’t seem like much to write an artsy essay with)?

Also, I was wondering about the IR frat at georgetown: Is it more of an “Honor Society” type organization, or do its members actually through parties for students?

I am thinking ahead about Thanksgiving break and I was wondering if all classes are held on Wednesday?

Thanks so much motivated_101 for doing this - means a lot to us! I was wondering how many courses it takes to become proficient in an intensive language study such as Arabic. Also, what books would you recommend for studying IR in high school? Would you suggest taking AP Micro/Macro Econ in high school? I’m already taking 4 APs, but I could possibly challenge those two.

Think it’s possible to take two intensive language sequences? Korean from the start and Japanese from intermediate?

Wishful thinking I guess.

I haven’t even applied yet and I’ve basically picked out my schedule xD I thought perhaps I could start Korean 2nd year because by then Japanese will only be a 3 credit class, but then if I wanted to study abroad I wouldn’t be able to finish Korean all the way to advanced 2.

LOL.

Thank you so much motivated_101 for starting this thread! I’m interested in the International Health program, but I can’t really find enough information about it besides the info given on the Gtown website. Does this program “force” you to go to medical school (something I definitely don’t want to do) or does it just open up careers in the health sector? Any information about this major would be greatly appreciated :)

Never mind, I didn’t read the beginning of this thread before posting -_- Thanks again for the information!
