When did the term ‘rising’ start and does it really mean anything. I keep seeing/hearing the term rising senior or rising junior. Does it mean anything more than just being a junior
It usually refers to the time after they complete one grade (in the spring) and before they start the next (in the late summer/early fall).
^ Yes. Otherwise there would be confusion. Does junior mean they just finished junior year or are about to start junior year.
Rising = Incoming
Wha? So it has nothing to do with “rising” like yeast, nor with the idea that the dough is entirely ready for them to be seniors but it needs to rest until September? Shucks. (
Rise up, Atlanta Falcons!! Oh, wait…
In mid-June, some school districts have completed the school year. Others haven’t. So, on June 20, a high school junior in NYC would be someone about to finish his/her junior year. In Texas, kids have finished the school year and a kid who has finished his/her junior year would refer to himself/herself as a senior. “Rising” was the term invented to describe the latter so as to avoid confusion.
It means it’s summer vacation
Ok now someone please explain what “bad moon rising” means?
^^Google is your friend: “Fogerty reportedly wrote “Bad Moon Rising” after watching The Devil and Daniel Webster. Inspired by a scene in the film involving a hurricane, Fogerty claims the song is about “the apocalypse that was going to be visited upon us”.[2]” wikipedia
I assume the apocalypse he is referring to is the pending fall tuition bill?
MODERATOR’S NOTE
Something bad will happen in the near future.
Not in the literal sense.
