I'm applying to Rice RD. scores are SAT1 770v 720m 650w SAT 2's 780 math2c 740 lit 710ush. My gpa is 108ish weighted and rank top 5% in my class. However, I did horribly junior year; my A and A+ average dropped to mostly A-'s, some B+, and even a 78 in precalc Honors. I wrote an essay that kindof related my circumstances junior year, but its very very risky. About family circumstances and sneaking out, definitely not the typical college essay (I even used the words damn and beer in it). Could someone read it and tell me if this personal statement is totally inappropriate? Rice is such a reach for me, and I feel like I need something to stand out.

Lol, that isn't horribly bad..... Try going from a 94 in english to a 70... (junior to senior year).

I've had junk for english teachers all my life till this year, but I'm glad to finally have a good one because I need it. To give an example of how hard she is:

Final - Over Oedipus Rex, Hamlet, 5 T.S. Elliot Poem, 10 Hemingway stories, several Robert Browning poems, The Stranger.

8 pages front and back with only short answer/essay questions. 90 minutes.

Half the class failed =P. I pulled the highest grade with an 85. (Studied for like 8 hours....)

Basically, don't worry too much about grades. Little bumps here and there are good IF they improve because it shows growth.

i wanna read it
