I was wondering, to show them my creativity, for my common app, to portray through a poem. It would be a different format of an essay but each line of the poem would be in depth. I am basing my "poems," if I was to take this approach, on the book, "where the sidewalk ends" by Shel Silverstein.

I am trying to apply for USC Roski's Art with a 4.0 GPA hopefully a 28 ACT score/ 1730 SAT score, being a President of 1 club that governs 3 clubs, in yearbook, in photography, Rose Parade member.

I think it’s worth a try, but have someone you know read it after to make sure that it doesn’t come off as annoying or pretentious (I don’t mean that to sound insulting at all, just that it’s a common pitfall when trying something extra unique in an essay, haha). Make sure that there’s a REASON for writing it in poetic form - if you could get the same information and style across through prose, then it would just seem kind of tedious to me.

I think you’d be surprised by the number of people who actually try this. My expectation is that a lot of readers probably sigh and think, “Oh God. Another one.” But I could be wrong. Maybe @lookingforward will shed some light.

I think it’s a great idea. Probably someone else has done it already but I think that it will be unique either way and something that will get you remembered
