Risky Topics

One of my friends wrote and essay that I thought was really good. He writes about a time when his friends pressured him to do drugs, but he refused and he explains why he refused. His guidance counselor and teacher think having drugs in the essay is too risky, so he changed the topic to skipping school - which he was never seriously tempted to do. But most of his friends and I think the original topic is much stronger.

How risky is this topic?
What other topics are risky and how risky is this one?
Have you heard of risky topics being pulled off successfully?

If he said “no” it’s fine. If he was talking about how he enjoys smoking joints at the creek, that would be a bad idea. Well, at least that’s how I see it.

i think its a good idea. dont let counselors tell him any different.

i think both topics are cliche
but a good writer can make something incredible out of any topic

tell him to go with the former, because you say it was stronger

It always sounds better when its the truth.
