RIT Chances

(some of you may remember this, but I figured new people have joined and/or I might get more opinions this time around).

I applied Early Decision at Rochster Institute of Technology, what do you think about my chances?

SAT I:
May SAT: 1110 (510v; 600m)
October SAT: 1110 (500v; 610m)
Best v and m: 1120 (510v; 610m)

I totally screwed up my SAT IIs (not disclosing that info to RIT anyway)
(just to ease your curiosity, they are 480 US History; 550 IIC) BAD, I know. note that i took AP US History and adv. precalc at the time of the SAT II. I just totally screwed the test up, I know I can do better. It was just one of those mornings where I really did not want to take a test.

Freshman through Junior year GPA: 3.26 UW/b
**Senior (1st semester) GPA: 3.5 or 3.6 UW

ECS: Computer programming club, Computer repair business, concessionist at local movie theater (worst job ever imo), snowboarding, waterskiing, saltwater reef aquarist, fishing.

anything else? I don't know. Awards: honor roll (shouldn't even have to put this down, i mean everyone gets it).

EDIT:

Class rank: ~63 / 170 (#1 HS in the state, the HS just stopped ranking because the differences between #1 and #21 is like .001)

no! lol, god damn kids!!!

Hopefully they'll see my improvements...drastic improvements, actually. I mean, if they were actually cool, they'd look at my application in its entirety. They should see that, wow, my Junior and Senior years are awesome, I moved several classes to honors, acceled in all of them, I only have 3 C's, and they're all C+s....AP US History, Spanish 3, and Spanish 4. I have an awesome recommendation from my Precalc teacher, and most likely an awesome rec from my AP US History class (I started the class with a C-, then C 2nd quarter, then B for Q3 and Q4, and ended with an A on the final)...my teacher knows how hard I worked to do well, so she'll reflect nicely on that.

Oh, if only I took harder courses freshman/sophomore year, and had better SATs.

If your rec's and application are good, I think you have a decent-good shot. Especially if RIT is familiar with your school. I'm not 100% sure, though - do you have some some others schools that you have or will apply RD to? The ED decision date is awfully late.

I applied back in Sept. I am just posting now because as the january 15th decision date gets closer and closer, I start to think i won't be accepted. However, I've already been accepted to one school, so all is not lost, but RIT is my #1 choice, so that'll be a real disappointment if I am not accepted. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst, as they say.

RIT isn't that familiar with my school (unless they somehow become familiar with it after two or three applications). My High School isn't really geared in my direction (Computer Engineering). If I had to chose, I would say that my high school is a school that's filled with more businessmen, doctors, lawyers wannabes than tech kids. They even cancelled the only programming classes they offer this year, in addition to not even offering AP Computer Science. The computer facilites are mediocre, the students tend to know more than the teachers when it comes to computers, it's just ridiculous. Hence my reason for being the founder and president of the computer club (as geeky as it sounds, i don't care).

Hmm, if you get get deferred or something, you could take the February ACT. Also, be sure to keep your grades up - might be really important!

Other than that - just chill and enjoy the holidays. You have an acceptance (congratulations!) so you'll be fine in any case.

Much to the chagrin of most people (I get that feeling since nobody posts on this thread) I must BUMP! I find it ridiculous how nobody ever posts in my threads.

Don't worry, Brian. Worse comes to worst, you can go to CCRI and get a QUALITY education!! irf, irf, wait, no... NO!!! DON'T DO THAT!! lol.. man at least you've been accepted somewhere.. I haven't even heard from any colleges yet.

haha, I now have 3 acceptances / 1 rejection. Too bad none of the 4 schools that i've heard from are actually high on my list :/. Oh well. Once again, nobody really replies to my threads, maybe the geniuses here don't want to "waste" time on a post like this (and spend it on some post w/ MIT mentioned). I don't know. Nobody knows for sure whether or not anybody will be accepted, it's just nice to know what others would say.

haaahh bump.....

Reply!!!!!!!!! my friend brian doesn't have much time, you dolts!!!

I can highly recommend replying.

I'd love to reply and help you out, but I don't know anything about RIT. Sorry.

Yes, you will get in.
I don't think RIT will care about your SATIIs as much as they will about your ecs.

good luck

Three acceptances now - good job. January 15th isn't that far away!

3 acceptances---I should have mentioned that 1 was a safety and the other 2 were "just right" I haven't heard from any of my reaches yet. And 2 of the three were just schools I applied to w/o looking at them.

yo i live like 15min away from RIT

its not that hard to get into

you seem like a good match for that school

thanks for the vote of confidence. I hope I get in. The only thing that gives me the feeling that I won't is their insanely high GPA (3.7). Their SATs are a little higher than mine, but not as bad as the GPA.

As someone mentioned on another thread, the reported GPA is just that - what the colleges said it was. We don't know how RIT is computing it. It might be weighted.

I'm almost 100% sure that it's unweighted...it says 3.7 from usnews.com and princetonreview.com. Since those rate other colleges on the 4.0 scale, I'd assume all colleges are on the 4.0 scale---I mean 4.0 is pretty much the universal standard when it comes to colleges. High schools are a little different--mine's out of 5.0, others can be out of 4, others can be out of 6...and yet others can have weird ones like 4.5.
