How's the financial aid in Rochester? Do they give lots of merit based scholarships? How generous are they with need based loans? Also, does time on the co-ops still count towards tuition?

Hi, I’m currently a freshman at RIT and as far as their merit based aid goes, I believe the Presidential scholarship which caps at $15,000/year. Unfortunately, they do not combine merit scholarships so after I was awarded the Presidential, the $6000/year computing scholarship I had was essentially forgotten (even though they say it’s factored into the presidential… whatever). The only one that combines in the $1000/year honors program scholarship.

Now I didn’t deal directly too much with the loans as much as my parents did, but we were able to get them pretty easily, both a Direct Unsubsidized Loan offered by RIT and an additional loan we looked into on our own.

While on co-op, you are not being charged tuition (though you might be paying for your apartment depending on when/ how you do it I suppose).
