I was accepted at both, but have no idea which I prefer. I'm visiting both over spring break. I cannot make the accepted students event at either because I'm from Chicago so I'm sort of limited on time. It would be great if anyone had opinions. I'm majoring in computer science if that helps.

on a pure name basis, i would choose RPI over RIT. I think RPI has a better name in the engineering world too, but I am not overly familiar w/ RIT

If OP was interested in engineering, I'd agree with you. But I think the Comp Sci program is somewhat stronger at RIT than RPI. However, I think the student life at RPI is by far superior to RIT.

Out of curiosity, do you have a source for that?

I've heard CS is decent at either school.

This is slightly off topic, but if you ever have any questions regarding the CS curriculum, feel free to PM me.

I have a friend who also got into RPI and RIT about 2 years ago..and he went to RIT because their CS program is really really strong.

aikomidori - Does your friend like the CS program at RIT?

yeah he really likes it :) but the social scene is horrible...(that's what i've heard anyway, i am not exactly sure)

I visited RPI and loved it, a little more than RIT. One tiny issue, my parents seem to be slightly more in favor of RIT. Any thoughts as to how I should convince them RPI is just as great if not better?

hey RPI does have that $100 mill blue gene computer…

I’m not not sure where you are from but I live in Rochester. We are right on Lake Ontario- the land of Lake Effect Snow - seemingly never ending winter. Still had some snow yesterday although it didn’t stick none of us here would be surprised to see some fall that did. You may not think our winter varies that much from Albany/Troy but it does. We get very little sunshine as well. It does affect some people.

RPI- 5000 students RIT- more than triple that, probably has something to do with why it is easier to get into RIT than RPI. I graduated from RIT, my daughter preferred the environment at RPI. She thought RIT felt “cold”.

No pun intended, huh Kgr? Hehe

lol- No pun intended ;)

kgrmom - I’m from Chicago so our winters may not be as harsh as winters in Rochester, but they’re very unpredictable. I love snow and the winter anyway so I’m not too worried about that. I think my parents love RIT a little more because it’s more pragmatic to them than RPI is. I never felt either school was “cold” but I just liked RPI a little more than RIT despite RPI’s location.
