RIT RD Class of 2023

Accepted. Computer Engineering.

Those who’ve received acceptances, how long after acceptance notification did financial aid and merit info get posted to portal?

@momwilcox

1 day later I got my scholarship info
3 days later I got my financial aid

Thanks @LittleLiam . My daughter received her acceptance yesterday, so we were curious when we’d receive the financial info. My guess based on your info is early next week since it’s the weekend now

Hi. My son is going to apply for game design in 2020. Has anyone got in RD and if so would they mind sharing their Stats so he can get an idea where he needs to be. We are in Canada. Thanks

My S was recently accepted in the GDD program at RIT. SAT 1380, GPA 3.75 unweighted, not as high as we wanted but I think by taking 5 AP classes, took calculus and physics at local college in the summer of his junior year, helped his chances. He also did Robotics club, plays violin for school orchestra and holds a part-time job. The waiting game for RD is excruciating especially for any of the CIS programs, when you see post for acceptance from other schools/majors.

@hopefu1 are you attending any of hte accepted students days?

Yes, we are attending this weekend 3/30. Making sure we wear winter coats…lol

@momwilcox… my son’s financial package came exactly 8 days after exceptance letter. Live in Maryland ( as geographical point of reference).

@OUBOBCAT92 thanks! We are in TX and my DD received her financial package via portal yesterday- so about 6 days after her acceptance

Congrats and thanks for the info

Hey everyone. Kinda late to the party, but I was accepted in early March to Animation as a Presidential Scholar!

Late coming in here too, my son just accepted after wait listed, can the merit award be appealed? This college very expensive choice, they don’t match Excelsior Scholarship like Cornell does now. Not sure if $200k loan is the way to go with RIT when even SUNY offered huge housing scholarship…

@Nygal88 Yes, the merit award can be appealed. Send an e-mail to your admissions counselor and they will tell you who to e-mail an appeals letter to. We did - unfortunately, it was denied, but it was worth a try.

@Nygal88 yes, you can appeal. I’d be realistic about chances and amounts. They do often give small extra amounts, but they are small, if granted. Not sure on appealing FA. We appealed merit and got another $1500 a year. Every little bit helps but that’s a teeny tiny drop in the bucket compared to a 200K loan which really isn’t advisable for any school.

Son was waitlisted for 1st choice major, opted to pick another, got in with 2nd choice major and RIT offered significant award, he appealed that and they gave him even more. Now he’s decided that he doesn’t want the second choice major. He is still on waitlist for 1st choice, but would they still consider him after giving him so much money? If he got off waitlist and accepted with 1st choice, do the financial aid grants and awards carry over from the 2nd choice major?

all finaid should carry over unless it was specific merit to the major.

@Nygal88 just curious how much did they give him?

I got off the waitlist to my first choice major (comp sci) last Monday and today they gave me $5k more after appealing aid, so I will definitely be attending in the fall.
