RIT-Rolling Admissions

I've seen it listed in a few places that RIT utilizes "rolling admissions" for notification of regular decision applicants. Does anyone know if this is true and when they would start to notify those applicants who submitted their applications along with all required materials by the end of October?

Early Decisions will come out in mid-December.

Those applying Regualr Decision by February 1 are told on the website that they will get a decision by March 15 (last year, decisions started coming out in late February).

Those who get their applications in after February 1 will get a decision 4 to 6 weeks after their application is complete.

[Timelines & Requirements for Freshmen Applicants](http://www.rit.edu/emcs/admissions/apply/freshman/requirements)

Good luck!

My son applied by December first…does that mean he won’t hear from them until late February?

That would seem to be it at the earliest. The only statement they make on the admissions site is that they will notify RD applicants who submit on time by 3/15.

My daughter received her acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. She applied ED in early October.

We actually didn’t check the mail until after I stumbled on to my “notice of acceptance” on the RIT app portal! I had logged in to check the status of some additional paperwork that I’d submitted and my acceptance was staring me in the face at midnight! Imagine my shock, RIT claims to not send acceptance letters until January 15th (coincidentally, that is also my birthday). But the big envelope definitely was in the mail when I checked it today. Of course, I applied ED, not RD.

Congrats! I just wanted to mention for anyone else reading this thread that my S who applied ED a few years ago did not get his acceptance until mid-January, even though his friend heard in December. So if you don’t hear early, it does not mean you are not accepted!

dadinator’s link shows ED results out by mid-January, despite some hearing earlier.

@mamabear that is true, I was under the impression that I wouldn’t find out until my birthday (January 15th). I was prepared for a very horrible birthday lol! But I did find out sooner than that. I was told at an open house that they start reviewing ED apps in mid November and I’m betting from there it’s just first come first serve notifications of acceptance/denial.

I applied Early Decision around November 20th and was told I would here anywhere between December 15th and January 15th

When my son applied ED last year, he found out, via the portal, before Christmas. Other kids found out a week or so earlier, and some who applied to other programs didn’t hear about their ED admission until after the new year. Apparently, each program makes decisions at their own pace. His big envelope didn’t arrive until a few weeks later.

^^^ We had the same experience last year with ED. We found out by accident when we visited the portal. The packet came a while later. D just finished her first semester and is really enjoying it.

I applied regular decision and just signed in to their portal today to see if an admission decision would be posted and it was not. I did however, notice that my application checklist was updated to include a mid-year grade report. I assume if my application was good enough to not require a mid year grade report they would have just told me I was accepted, so I think decisions will be released soon. They do say on their website that regular decision applicants will be notified by mid march if i remember correctly. I am unsure if they ask all applicants for mid year grade reports or if my application checklist just updated late. Please correct me if I am wrong though :).

Edit: If my assumptions are correct does this mean that if I have a good mid year grade report that my chances of being admitted are high? :)

It could just be that your high school automatically just sent them your mid-year report. I know that is the way it works at my sons high school.

Any ED applicants get a decisions yet? The date is January 15th, this Wednesday, just curious if they’ve sent letters in advance.

My s is anxiously waiting for word, applied ED game design. It really felt like home to him when he visited, but we saw a post before christmas that someone had already been accepted into the program, holding out hope that they are still making decisions for that major.

Dawn, see my post #7 above. I know what you and your S are going through. He is a Game Design major. Hope you hear soon!

I sure hope that they are still accepting into Game Design as my son applied RD for that major. We love the new MAGIC studio.

Received acceptance in snail mail today, portal still not updated. Hope there’s good news for you too copywright.

I’m not sure now, the portal isn’t updated and I have received an email about HEOP. I’m thinking I got rolled over into RD + HEOP program. Which isn’t really bad in the long run, the financial aid will be much better if admitted that way.

Quick question (apologies if this is the wrong thread to post in) but I am applying to RIT (NTID actually as I am deaf) soon. I noticed a lot of things are due by the 1st which was yesterday. Unfortunately, I couldn’t gather all my information in time. I was wondering if it is still worth applying and spending the $60 if I send everything in and pay tomorrow (the 3rd)? I am applying as a transfer student by the way.

Thanks.
