Major- CS
RIT- $120k scholarship
UCI- no $$ support
Are you in state for UCI?
yes
UCI looks like it will be $35k/yr
RIT ~$40k/yr ?
Since cost is fairly close we were thinking it might be best to opt for program that is less impacted? RIT might stretch out to $43k/yr ?
Does either school have a history of not graduating on time due to difficulty registering for needed classes?
Both seem to be able to take the AP courses he has completed.
RIT has co-op program.
Not sure about UCI vs RIT regarding the strength of the 2 computer science programs. Any input that would sway from one to the other would be much appreciated.

Or choose by better program but this likely depends on which areas he is drawn to and I am unsure how much that is clearly defined for him now?

Any advice on pros and cons to consider welcomed.
Weather does not seem to be something he cares about in making a decision ;-). Although he may change his mind… 18 years in Southern California .
It looks like most AP credits at UCI are for elective credit only. Has he taken any AP courses that can be applied to his GE requirements? UCI AP Credit
He shouldn’t have a problem graduating on time from UCI unless he changes his major midway through his education.
From quick look before it seemed like RIT would be a little better for AP classes-
UC would take tests but electives vs GE requirements.
last few are test pending so unsure re any credit, elective, or GE

re finances- another option is to go to Calif JC and tag a UC but it looks like UC Davis would be the only option because the others restrict tagging for CS.
Its been challenging to sort out how UCI, UC Davis, RIT all compare to each other with regards to CS curriculum. I have read how some students end up with CS degrees from various colleges but really did not learn skills for employment.
UC Davis offers CS in the COE as well as in L&S. Do they allow you to tag into the COE? Was he admitted directly into CS at UCI? If so, why would you opt for CC rather than starting now?
2 years of decreased tuition would be only reason for JC and we are hoping to avoid that option.
