Rivalry

<p>So, at dinner the other night, my uncle was bloviating on why he believes Harvard to be superior to Dartmouth, (he's an alumni of the former). I found this interesting- is there a legit rivalry between Harvard and Dartmouth? I know about Harvard and Yale, and Princeton and Penn, but up to this point never heard of this particular contention.<br>
(My sister will end up at Harvard, probably, so it would be really awesome if we went to rival schools.)</p>

<p>The thing with Dartmouth is that we don’t really have a clear rival in the Ivy league like say H v Y. Some say that we are rivals with Brown/Cornell/Columbia, nevertheless I never see much enthusiasm against those guys (or in a lot of sports in general here haha). It also depends on the sport, like in hockey d vs. princeton. Don’t really know about harvard, they creamed us anyway in football over the weekend. It might be a vestige of the older days: Son of a Gun for Beer, and the Dartmouth Fight Song mention haaavad.</p>

<p>technically, we are “rivals” with princeton. that’s who we play on rival weekends, when H plays Y. but that was like, 50 years ago.
in the modern context, i’d think we’d rival brown, for the “liberal arts ivy”. or penn/columbia for “wall street ivy”. maybe princeton for the “wasp ivy” (although this stereotype is no longer valid at either school anymore). maybe cornell for the “buried in snow 9 months out of the year” ivy.
but none can rival us in the department of sweetness.</p>

He’d yell, “TO HELL WITH HARVARD!” like his daddy used to do.</p>

<p>Our football rivals are Columbia and Holy Cross. We always play one of those two schools during homecoming – probably because they are just as bad as us.</p>

<p>^ha. Yeah, I don’t mind going to a school with bad athletic teams.</p>

<p>Holy Cross is undefeated in Patriot League play so far (4-0) and beat both Brown and Dartmouth out of conference. Holy Cross is not nearly as bad as Dartmouth ;-> There was a brawl at the end of the Dartmouth-HC game 2 years ago:</p>

<p>Lol, as long as there’s soccer, I"m happy :)</p>
