Hi, my son has got accepted into the fourth grade in both these schools and on the face of it, they both seem nice. Confused on which one to choose. My son is academically oriented and we’d like a school that is strong in academics but at the same time encourages children to think for themselves, to think out of the box. Thanks in advance for replying.
Both excellent schools and your son will get an excellent education at either. Riverdale would be considered a bit more traditional and Fieldston a bit more progressive.
Academics between those two are a wash, use other things to decide.
I would choose Riverdale. I think it s a better school not so wrapped up political correctness. The extreme position they espouse has turned off a lot of people over the years. Fieldston will not be a place to think for yourself unless of course the child thinks as the school does. If that makes sense
Riverdale if you have a kid who will do better in a traditional classroom (likes order and structure, likes teacher lead class instruction, etc) or Fieldston if your kid goes for creative over analytic, goes with the flow, does not like structure, etc.
Thank you everyone for your comments. Appreciate it.
If you’re still taking suggestions, I’d definitely vouch for Fieldston. Totally fosters creative thought (look up “Fieldston School Fashion Show” for evidence!) and very academically rigorous (more so than Riverdale, IMO.) Congratulations, and good luck choosing!
