Riverside West Question

When we went to the Ridgecrest South dorm for BB, room had double closet doors that each swung out. I was just looking at the pictures of Riverside West and it looks as if the closet doors are sliders.

Can anyone confirm what the doors are like on the closets of Riverside West – seems like a silly question, but we were planning on buying over the door storage and if the doors don’t swing out, we need to scrap that plan. :)

Thanks again to everyone who posts here!

Regards,
Pat

i think sliders would be better than the swing out doors. swing out doors limit floor space!

idk the answer to your question, but i am sure someone else will.

i just looked at the floorplans.

ridgecrest south shows swing out doors. riverside shows sliders.

swing out for our purposes would be way better because you have four sides of doors to use for storage like shoe trees (you can’t imagine!), pocket book hangers, etc. that was one of the best features of the room. glad we realized it before we spent the money on the organizers.

thanks.

idk - since each kid has his/her own room, i am thinking that storage isn’t nearly as big a problem as it would be in a shared room.

<shrug></shrug>

Definitely sliders

Yes sliders.

As for the swing-out doors for Ridgecrest South. I’m not sure how the layout for each room is, but the 2 rooms I was in had the bed in front of the closet so no loss of floor space since that area wouldn’t be used for anything anyway.

Imagine that the X’s are where the closet is.

you’ve got mad skills at making room layouts with keyboard characters, mom! haha! : )

ha!

I noticed the swing out doors because they were so different from what we had noticed before. I wonder if they had had problems with the sliders or they wanted kids to be able to use the over-the-door organizers.

No offense to anyone, but when I showed my youngest son this thread, his first reaction was that a girl had to ask about closet doors.

His second reaction was, “What’s a closet?”

momreads: no offense taken! definately a girl and definately into her closet space. we really were so excited when we saw those swing out doors, the thought of all that space with over the door storage rather than under the bed. but oh well - if that is the worst thing we have to deal with – no worries.

Johnr441: My youngest son would not worry about the closet, desk or drawer. He would be more concerned about the rec center hours, does he have tickets to every football game and does the dorm have a kitchen (the kid loves to cook).

momreads - so true, add TV/videos and dining hall info, S figures he’s way ahead of the game not having to share bathroom with 2 girls, won’t lose his shaver and toothbrush behind all their stuff. After BB he didn’t recall closet (let alone size) or that bathroom had shelves. Glad I stayed in dorm.

Sometimes I read all the prep folks are doing and think I’m missing something…ummmm
bedding, computer, printer, books, some food and cleaning items…ummmmmmm I guess he’ll have to visit others for that sense of home…

Since we just moved houses and down-sized considerably, his response when I asked him about rugs and ‘comfort items’ was, "nah, I don’t think I want to accumulate ‘stuff’ "

:)

Rugs are often only needed/wanted for the dorms that aren’t carpeted. The honors dorms are carpeted.

And, boys often don’t have as much stuff as girls do.

The Student: I agree with M2CK. Guys often do not need as many things at college as the girls do. My son has asked that, when we get back to T-Town, we go through all his things. He wants me to take some clothing home. He also wants to donate some of his older clothing to the needy (he had some jeans that he first wore as a HS freshman). Sure, there are things that my son definitely wants for his suite (like his coffeemaker), but he’s a low-maintenance kid.

Yes…boys have a lot less stuff. I boy can get thru with flip-flops, athletic shoes, and Sperries, but girls will have 10+ pairs of shoes at school. And, that’s just the beginning…LOL

Boys like to tease girls about the situation, but in truth boys like the ever-changing eye candy they see around school.

you are right mom … boys kinda like the way girls do things, don’t they?

LOL…boys may not like the way girls do things, but they like the way the end result looks.

Have to say even with the minimal amount DS needs the pile sure is looking huge!
