How prestigious is Roanoke College for a Pol Science major?
What is it best known for?
How does it compare to SLU, Loyola(Chi), and Marquette?

A notch below

Roanoke College is not highly selective. However, it delivers small classrooms, full attention from caring faculty and an attractive campus in a small Virginia town. It has a quaint campus and a nice vibe. I know two females who are now doctors who started there and several other current students.

What is the Student Body like? Is Roanoke even known in D.C.?

Feel free to PM me if you like. I have a parent who was raised in the town of Salem, where Roanoke College is located. Several of my S's classmates are there now. I would say that kids who are there prefer a not highly competitive atmosphere with serious classrooms and full attention from Profs somewhere between one to six hours from home. They have a lot of kids there from Virginia homes. I know kids from Pennsylvania and various Virginia cities there and believe there are also a lot of Maryland kids there. Graduates get a solid liberal arts foundation and can easily find work or find entry to some graduate schools. I know a local English teacher, Spanish teacher, bookstore owner, and two doctors who went there. I have a cousin who went there eons ago and got into Columbia Med school in NYC. It has Lutheran roots and a sort of moderate feeling. The college brings a certain amount of Cultural Events to the region. I see kids working in Salem stores and they always seem polite and serious about getting an education.
