My son is looking at Roanoke College, we took the tour and were very impressed. It would be a safety, but the campus was beautiful, seems like academics are important and it has a very generous scholarship program. What we want to know is what do the students who go there think about the school as far as atmosphere, party scene, academics, sports, and overall feel of the school? My son is from a New England public high school, certainly enjoys the occasional party but is a focused student who plays lacrosse. Any word out there from students/parents of students who currently attend Roanoke? Thank you!

One of my close friends just accepted a teaching position there (she just got her PhD). She was VERY impressed with Roanoke College and chose it over some other opportunities. She spoke highly of the students and faculty that she met. Gorgeous campus and town.

My sister visited Roanoke and Hollins when looking for colleges and was thoroughly impressed by both. She liked the sense of community and that the Greek scene was a bit quieter than one might find at a school like W&L.

Here’s a thread with some good info on Roanoke:

Barrons has written about VA colleges before in usually a favorable light. A PM might be worth a try, if he doesn’t see this thread.

Thanks for the info! I checked out the other thread, there’s one new post. A little concerning re some of the older posts in regards to the lacrosse players. Hmmm…

I am pretty familiar with the Lynchburg area schools–Sweet Briar, Lynchburg College, and Randolph College (formeraly Randolph Macon Women’s College). RC is the best of the group and right now needs students as the switch to coed hurt enrollment. Men are especially sought and they have $$$$$$$$$$.

Sweet Briar is similar to Hollins–nice campus and horse facilities
LC is more of a large school with business and other majors. Nice campus too.

Liberty is more for certain students wanting Christian based education.
