Has anyone heard from this scholarship yet?
If so, what state are you in?
Thanks

Oregon, got it in the mail yesterday.

Ditto, yesterday in Oregon.

Please tell me you're both in Portland and I might still be actually in the running - just further out in the mailbox boonies...

Nevada... I'm pretty confused though because I did not apply for it....

Is it tuition only?

Does the selective service requirement apply only to guys or is it girls too?

MD

I'm also a bit confused. I looked it up and I'm guessing I was nominated by my principal without my knowing it, but can anyone tell me anymore details about this scholarship? How much money does it usually give out?

Byrd scholarship gives out 1500/year for 4 years. Each state has a different nominating and awards process. In Oregon, everyone apply to a statewide scholarship organization run by Oregon Department of Education. Other states have principals nominate 1-2 students. This scholarship is not based on financial need, and I think GPA and SAT/ACT play the biggest part (if not the only part) of the awarding process.

Selective service is for guys only. I don't know if it's tuition only.

We haven't heard anything yet. We're in Texas.

Got it yesterday in MD.

Ohio posted winners this past Thursday.

If Texas is like it was last year, the winners will be notified in 1-2 weeks. Non-winners are not notified.

Have any New Yorkers heard back yet?

what is the robert byrd scholarship??

orjr, sorry, not in Ptld, but further down the Willamette Valley.

bball, click the link above to read about the scholarship

Haven't heard directly in Missouri but found a list on their website of the winners, sadly son wasn't on the list but that is okay as he has gotten several others. Here is the link http://dese.mo.gov/divteachqual/scholarships/Byrd.pdf

taillon - thanks for the Missouri link. My sister had just assumed her son wasn't going to receive it since they hadn't heard anything, but he is on the list. I just e-mailed the link to her. Sorry your son wasn't listed.

Daughter was notified a couple of weeks ago in Kansas she was receiving the scholarship. Her friend down the street did not get it - he was also notified by mail.

Anyone from Tennessee

can every school be eligible to get one? I just checked the list for Ohio and we have 9 different public school systems and 2 private schools in our district and there was only one winner at one school in our district. Could there have potentially been a winner at each school? Is it that the principals of these schools did not nominate someone?

Recipients from CT were mailed the info last week.

It is my understanding (correct me someone if I am wrong), that your high school has nothing to do with the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship. The process begins based only on your ACT or SAT score. In Kansas, the Department of Education sent the application forms directly to D. She filled them out and sent them back. There probably was something in there for the school to do (send a transcript, write a recommendation, etc.), but I don't remember. The school did not start the process or have anything to do with the selection.
Yes, you can have more than one at a school. I think they look at it student by student. My nephew in Missouri had two or three at his school.
There were two at my daughter's school (rural, medicore h.s.).
