How do we renew the Byrd scholarship for the coming year(s)? The New York State site only says that it is renewable, depending on academic success. But there is not really much more than that. Other states' sites seem to have a form to send to schools. Do we ask the school for this notice? Will the Byrds send us a form? What is good advice for renewing this? Thanks!

We live in Oregon and received a letter at home a little over a week ago from the state dept of education. It required some information (gpa, any changes, etc.), my D's signature and return within 2 weeks. Since every state is different, you might want to call whoever administers the Byrd from your state.

The rules vary by state. In Texas, we don't do anything; it is automatically renewed.

In CA, if anything is done, it is done by the school verifying you are still enrolled, call your Finaid dept and ask

i just submitted the byrd scholarship today...and was wondering how the process work....who gets it...how are they judged

There are different rules in each state- google the name of it with your state and see what they say

where can we find an application?

google the name and your state

The Byrd Scholarship program is one of the programs to be cut in the current budget proposal. I know I read this last year too, and then it was funded. I certainly hope it continues to be. In Indiana, we have not received anything regarding renewal and based on the original paperwork, I was assuming the renewal was automatic (assuming it's in the passed budget)

If you do get this one, be ware, it funds slowly, as $ are allocated. My D got her fall one in December! If one was relying on it for tuition, it might not make it in time. I hope it is funded, at least one more year ;)

I received an email yesterday saying I had been awarded the Byrd Honors scholarship for North Carolina. They said we would be receiving a letter soon with more details. Anyone else hear yet? It was really quick. The deadline was feb. 8 and I found out the 24th.
