Hey thanks Texas Mom! i had just about given up. im hoping to have another reason to celebrate on the 4th if a happy letter shows up! congrats to all the winners so far.

FYI, note the payment process since this also varies by state. In OH, you have to register first on a special web site then request the payment after July 1 and payments are made directly to the student and not to the college. The entire amount is also paid at once so I figure my daughter will sign the check over to the school but I’m expecting that this will be applied to spring semester since it will come too late for fall.

I know from a comment somewhere on this site that other states pay directly to the college (and frequently late)

lots of GA winners :)

Ahhh still haven’t heard anything in MN

No news in Alabama either.

Wow, this takes a long time. It sure would be nice to know what some states know that others don’t know?

Patience is a virtue, but it sure is hard sometimes!

Florida: just notified by email that D HAS received the scholarship. Happy Dancin’ going on! :)

What is the amount of the scholarship and what criteria are used to determine if you qualify or not?

[Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program](http://www.ed.gov/programs/iduesbyrd/)

Although this is a federally funded program, each state sets its own critieria, but the main criteria is suppose to be academic record, mainly based on GPA, test scores, and class rank. In Alabama, the application requires all of this information plus school and community activities, leadership, and a short statement essay. I’ve looked at other states, and a great deal of their applications are very short, only asking for the basic academic numbers.

In some states, the school must nominate a student for he/she to be considered. I know that is true in Alabama (each school can nominate a max. of 2 students).

The link that was sent in the previous posting should assist you in finding your state’s department of education requirements.

WA:

“Notification letters should be sent to the students near the beginning of July.”

Got it! I’m from Florida.

Have people in Illinois received notification yet?
I was told that the min. ACT score was 34, which I found to be very high, especially since there are many states that require scores in the low-to-mid-twenties.
I had a 32 on my ACT, but was my class valedictorian, so I had been hoping for this scholarship. I’m guessing that I was not selected, as I have not received any form of notification and, assuming that the 34 ACT score is correct, did not even meet the requirements.
So, I was just wondering if anybody in Illinois has received notification and if he/she would be willing to share his/her ACT score, class rank, etc.
Thanks!

^^
D, in Fl, had a 4.0 u.w. and a 35 ACT. In FL each high school nominates the student w/ the highest unweighted gpa figured with the highest one time sitting ACT, however, each student nominated doesn’t necessarily obtain a scholarship.

ATTN ALL CALIFORNIA APPLICANTS:

called them today, said notifications will be out sometimes next week.

cutoff was 4.0/2010.

I had 4.0/2350

WOOT! :)

Oh yeah- stats. 3.96 GPA. (one B+ in 9th Grade Spanish unfortunately)

2370 SAT.

I’m really excited I got the award!

D got letter in the mail today that she has been selected. Her Stats are as follows
34 ACT ranked 6/640 with 4.2 unweighted gpa. Looks like Minnesota selects by congressional district. This was a very big surprise as I did not know she was our schools 1 nominee. $1500/per year for 4 years will sure come in handy.

My son just received a letter telling him that he has been awarded a Byrd Scholarship.

In MN students are ranked, within each congressional district, by ACT/SAT scores (35/2300 for my son) and an essay about Senator Byrd.

Also won from Minnesota! My score is 1530.

i recieved the scholarship in louisiana, but the only reason i know is because the winners were published in the local newspaper. a close friend of mine got it as well, and she got her letter of affirmation sometime last week, while i still haven’t gotten mine, and we live in the same city, a ten minute drive from each other. is there someone i should contact, or just wait a few more days…?

stats from new york?
