Robertson Scholars

I am starting this thread because I know that finalists for the Robertson Scholars will begin to be notified within the next few weeks or so. Just curious if anyone here already knows if they are a finalist for the Robertson Scholars. I am basing this on the fact that on their website underneath the News section the finalists are usually announced in late February or early March. Good luck to all!

I just got my letter sent to me via Saturday day delivery. Looks like they are mailing it to 120 candidates. We have a phone interview next week and then we get notice if we are part of the 90 finalists.

And btw the letter states that provided I maintain my continued level of academic success and community service I will be assured entrance to Duke and U.N.C. Chapel Hill in April.

was it sent in the regular mail service to you?

No it wasn't sent via regular mail. It was FedEx and it was sent the 25th of February.

hey congrats! Was there a separate supplement for this scholarship...or was it just based on the app?

There was an optional supplement.

I'm really surprised that they're already sending them out, though.... I applied to Pratt and I don't think they've even started evaluating the applicants yet. I know for certain that my Midyear report hasn't been accepted.......

We have a phone interview March 5-6 so I think that you should be notified at the latest early next week. Also, you have to call the office by March 2, 2005 (that's the deadline for semifinalists) to schedule an interview time slot.

Seven Nights-I'm a semifinalist too (but only for Duke, since I didn't apply to UNC). The whole program seems VERY cool, from the seminars to the paid summer travel. I'm accepted to Harvard EA and I love that school very much, but I don't know how I could turn down a Robertson, if I were so lucky as to win it.

Edit: I didn't do the optional supplement, FYI.

I received notification via FedEx today as well. The program looks...well, incredible. I'm in the same boat as justforgetme, I got accepted to Stanford ea. But if I got a Robertson, well, i don't think i could turn it down. But, of course, they only give out 15, and there are 120 semi-finalists, so, it's probably still Cardinal for me!

P.S.- I didn't fill out the optional supplement either

I got my letter today as well. I am assuming the 120 semifinalists are from both Duke and UNC and ecah school gives out 15. If you applied to both schools than you have pretty good odds. 30/120 and if you make the cut 30/90.

Dig33-I only applied to Duke, so I'm not sure, but I have a feeling that if you applied to both schools you need to pick one to interview at (since the interviews are the same weekend). Then again, maybe you can compete for both at the same time, somehow.

I thought I had heard that people had been finalists at both schools, however I don't know. Either way it will still be very hard to be a finalist at even one of the schools so maybe most people end up interviewing at one campus. I guess applying to both does double your odds though. Who knows- I am just going to try to do well in the phone interview and take it from there.

Finalists have been given the option of either UNC Chapel Hill or Duke, but in the end they have to choose at which school to matriculate at.

Some finalists (depending on if they applied to both schools) if they are designated as recipients of a Robertson Scholarship and have applied to both UNC Chapel Hill and Duke are given the option of which school to matriculate at.

as if that should be a hard choice :)

what are robertson scholars?

i feel like a loser for asking this, i probably read about it, decided it didnt pertain to me and forgot about it m, but now id like to kno, and this may be faster than looking it up....

Two questions:

Did you have to sign for the fed ex package?

(if so)
2. what time did it come?

I havent heard on any Chapel Hill applicants getting their notifications...

DisplacedNewYorker- I don't know if you had to sign or not. All packages had clearly stated "For Saturday Delivery". The Robertson Scholars organization had mailed them out Friday (the sheet says the delivery was purchased on Friday Feb 25).

nckid101- I applied to UNC Chaple Hill as well and my letter acknowledged my dual applications (UNC Chapel Hill and Duke). Btw if you haven't heard by know then more than likely you weren't a finalist. Why? Because you have to RSVP by March 2 for a phone interview. That's why they were sent next day delivery and not 2 day or regular mail.
