agreed! i emailed them, and they said by Feb 28th. the guy told me to “please note that only semi finalists will be notified” i think that’s a bad sign for meee because i asked again if i could send in supp materials, but no response.

anyways, any idea of how many apply and how many are selected as semi finalists?

im not sure of the specific numbers, but since semi finalists (not finalists) are interviewed, im assuming it is an extremely competitive scholarship.

Working backwards from the 18+18 scholarship winners at each campus (Duke and UNC-CH), they probably invite at least 72 or more to the Scholars Weekend as finalists. In order to select these 72+ finalists, I would guess that they phone interview at least 200 candidates identified by the screening process.

Do you have any idea how many applications they received? Also if there are any current scholarship recipients receiving this - mind giving us your stats?

The calendar on the website says that we will hear BY the end of February. So, basically, we’ve got 2 more days. Seeing as they sent out decisions on Feb. 20th last year, they probably got more applications this year; this is just an observation, though.

Also, that means we’ve only got 2 more potential days to wait. NOT until next week… unless they lied! :] They may send them out today because they sent them out on a Friday last year.

is notification definitely through snail mail and not email?!
i’ve been checking my email inbox allllll week!
good luck everyone, pleasee post if you get a response :)

me eitherrr. they shud at least tell the people that did the whole app if they got it or not…it seems unrealistic that they wud mail it this weekend tho. thats cuttin it close, right?

I looked at previous threads and 7 doesn’t really seem right to me… it seems like some people were even getting notifications around 3:30 at various levels of the scholarship. I may be wrong, but I think it may have happened earlier in the day.

Yep, they really ARE pushing everything back this year. Ugh! I just can’t stand how this scholarship leaves us in limbo by saying we find out at the “end of February.” It’d be nice if they just went ahead and said Feb. 28th to be safe–if they were able to send them out early, it’d be no skin off their backs. However, at least students would have a date to look forward to and not have to anxiously check their e-mail accounts for 2 weeks!
