Robertson Stats

I'm a sophomore that's pretty interested in Duke and the Robertson at the moment. If there's anyone out there who has gotten it, or if you know someone who has, please post your stats up here.

To all who want to, here’s the format that I think everyone should follow (Yes, I stole it from the Early Action Caltech thread)

My guess is that stats are pretty near perfect, but that everything else varies widely. There’s not a ‘formula’ for getting it. Certainly they all have achieved–through academics, extracurriculars, sports (is this a requirement for Robertsons like it is Moreheads?), and personal qualities–throughout high school. My guess is that most, if not all, have taken initiatives beyond what was simply handed to them at their high school.

You’ll have to be a pretty remarkable applicant to even make it to semi-finalist.

^i agree. i’m a finalist. you don’t prepare for it. it’s other way around. do the best you can with passion and persistence and good things will happen.

Thanks for the feedback, and both of you are right. I know that stats are not a good way to judge Robertson scholars and finalists, but I’d still like to know these things so that I can set a bar for myself.

And itsme123, congrats and good luck!!! :)

Anyway, so I sorta copy/pasted too quickly. Here’s the better format:

Don’t forget to remove the spaces!!! :)

I know a few (undisclosed number) Robertson scholar (shall not be identified or named)

Near max SAT, enough AP credit to be soph/junior at most state schools, national level competition winners, innate genious and/or hardcore work ethic, loved by counselors and teachers, top of HS graduating class.

Well this does sound pretty generic…w/e. PM me if you must know the specifics.

Yeah I know a girl who’s a finalist for the Robertson. She actually missed school today b/c today was the Robertson finalist weekend.

She’s incredibly smart; does all these academic competitions. She’s on 2 varsity sports teams which both made it to the state finals. She’s president of several clubs, national merit semifinalist (so far) and a bunch of other things I can’t think of off the top of my head.

Is she a junior currently??

A senior from NC.
Robertson is only for rising freshman in college.

But I thought that finalist letters had already been given out!!! Oh, crap, no, that’s national merit.

The Robertson Scholarship is not focused on applicants who have “near perfect scores or GPA.” It’s based on leadership, community service, ethics, and qualities that make an applicant stand out because of his or her character. Sure, you have to have the grades just like every other student admitted to Duke, but the purpose of this scholarship is more about how you live and not necessarily the academic success you have achieved.

What ceo1207 said. Lots of community service and leadership. The majority of Robertsons I’ve met are smart, but definitely don’t stand out in the classroom. It’s the stuff that they do outside the classroom that’s impressive.
