Who applied (back in December)? I'm just interested to meet/learn about my fellow applicants! What are y'all's big community service things? Is Duke your first choice? Would you ever turn down the Robertson? Is anyone also applying for it at UNC? (I'm just applying at Duke.)

What's Robertson? I feel so stupid asking this, lol

I applied at both Duke and UNC.

Duke isn't technically my first choice- I have three that are equal in my mind.

But I would NEVER turn the Robertson down. Here's to hoping I make semi next month... (this wait is killing me).

I applied for the Robertson at Duke and UNC.

Does anyone know when exactly we find out about semis?

Oh okay I found the timeline on the website if anyone else was wondering:

February 23, 2008 - Semifinalists selected and invited to participate in phone interviews

March 1-2, 2008 - Each semifinalist participates in a twenty-minute phone interview

March 7, 2008 - Semifinalists are notified of phone interview results. Finalists are invited to attend Finalists' Weekend on the Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill campuses

March 29-April 1, 2008 - Finalists' Weekend

April 6, 2008 - Finalists notified of interview results. After our selection cycle, students will be invited to join the Robertson Scholars Program with the goal of enrolling 18 Scholars at Duke and 18 at UNC-Chapel Hill

April 15, 2008 - Deadline for students accepting the invitation from the Robertson Scholars Program

I applied for the Robertson at both Duke and UNC. Neither are my top choice, but I would never turn down the Robertson.

I want it nowwwwwwww

Is it too late to apply for this?

^It's too late unless Duke or UNC specifically pulls your app from the pile and sends it to them.

Those that filled out the form by Dec. 1 are guaranteed to have the com. look at the supplement.

All anyone who didn't fill it out can do now is wait and hope.

I'm a Duke Robertson, class of 2011. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the scholarship/turning down other schools to take it/duke generally. good luck, everyone!

I applied for both, though I am strongly losing interest in finishing the UNC-Chapel Hill application.

I applied both as well, UNC is prolly my first choice though

do semifinalists usually get into duke? maybe not robertson, but accepted to duke?

if ur a semi for the robertson through duke then prolly. I guess it kinda works like Emory Scholars, cuz i hav heard that if ur a semi, ur automatically accepted.

I can see that MAYBE someone that went semi for Robertson was rejected at Duke if this scholarship's application pool was limited because of the extra essays and recs required.

But since you can be pulled from the regular admissions pile to be considered from Robertson, and since semi-finalists are therefore an already narrowed pool, I would say these people are very likely accepted to Duke (i.e., 90-99% chance)

In regards to the possibility of a limited applicant pool, I believe that less than 2% of people who proactively submitted the supplement last year were offered the scholarship – meaning that enough people do indeed go through the hassle of applying. (And if you consider that almost all applicants to Duke and/or UNC are theoretically considered, the overall acceptance rate drops to an even scarier 1/8 of one percent.)

Selection as a semi-finalist for the Robertson Scholars Program is in honor in itself and certainly means that you have been accepted to Duke, provided the usual warning that you “maintain high standards of academic performance and personal behavior.”

That's usually the case (that if you're a semifinialist you're into Duke), but a kid a my school last year was a semifinialist for the Robertson, got into UNC-Chapel Hill, and waitlisted denied from Duke. Guess he's that 1% chance.

Btw, I applied for the Robertson as well.

From what I've read, you must first be accepted to the school before you can be selected for semifinalist status. Therefore, if you are a semifinalist, you've been accepted to the school that will offer the scholarship if selected.

fitzyman, the kid in your school was probably offered semifinalist status at UNC. if not, then yeah, he's the outlier

Just thought I'd bump this since the calls for semi-finalist are coming in 4 days.... Post once you know the news!
