Robertsons Scholarship - Full Ride??

My s heard from a classmate that the Robertson Scholarship has been changed from full tuition to full ride. Is this true? The girl he heard it from is very confident on getting this "full ride"

Yes, this is true. I am a robertson finalist as well, and I just got this e-mail earlier this week about the scholarship being changed to full tuition AND room and board:

"To our Robertson Scholar candidates,
I am delighted to announce that, beginning next semester, the Robertson Scholars Program will cover tuition, housing, board, and mandatory fees for all current and future Duke Robertson Scholars. As a result, both UNC and Duke Scholars' undergraduate educational expenses will now be fully funded.
Please join me in celebrating this milestone decision and in expressing gratitude to Julian and Josie Robertson for their extraordinary generosity. This decision is a testament to their belief in the Robertson Scholars Program
and in the potential of exemplary young leaders to contribute to a better world.

We know that excellence requires the combination of talent and financial resources. When these come together, amazing things can result. The financial commitments have been made. We are excited about all of the extraordinarily
talented Robertson Scholar finalists!
Warm regards,
Tony"

The Robertson Scholars Program provides full tuition, room and board, for students at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. These benefits last for four years. Students also receive funding of $4000 for the domestic summer, and $6000 each for the international and exploration summers. All Robertson Scholars receive a laptop computer.

How many finalists are there and how many are picked? Can someone explain the program?

Google "The Robertson Scholars Program"

<< ok thanks >>

There are 50 finalists from each school (Duke and UNC), and they aim to pick approx. 20 from each school. Finalists weekend is at the end of march.

The Robertson Scholars Program is a full-ride merit scholarship and leadership development program at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill that covers all college costs (tuition, fees, room and board, laptop, etc.). It also provides full funding for three summers of global travel, research, and internships, and gives recipients a unique “dual citizenship” where they are full students at both Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill.

The Robertson Scholars program seeks out students who will be change agents, innovative leaders who have a unique potential to have a profoundly positive impact on the world. Criteria for selection include superior academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, strength of character, courage, and collaborative spirit.

The program seeks to enroll 36 scholars each year, 18 at each campus. All 39,000 or so applications to Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill are considered for the program, but the program strongly encourages interested applicants to fill out the program’s Supplemental Materials Form in order to ensure review of the applicant’s file by the program itself.

More information about the program can be found at its website: Robertson Scholars: Homepage
