Applied as sophomore through special UW Academy program

what is this program, i haven't heard much about it, granted i don't live in WA

Soo exciting I want to get out of high school for hti slol

Hey! I was planning on applying to the UW Academy program this year. I realize that this thread was posted quite some time back, but how would you say your experience was at the Academy? Could you give me some advice on applying to the Academy and what specifically the admissions office looks for in successful applicants?

It is a wonderful program. Resources and support you will get at the Robinson Center is as good or better than at any top ranked university. My son entered UW after 8th grade via RC’s EE program. The selection was based on I-ACT scores and teacher/parent interviews.

Feel free to contact RC directly. You’ll find them most helpful. IMHO, Julie Lancour @ RC is the best academic advisor. Good luck!

^UWHuskyDad nailed it right on the head in terms of admissions criteria

Although I never did the UW Academy(I was invited to join via EE), I have had great experiences at the Robison Center in the past and would think that anything related to it would be great as well. I also know a lot of people who have gone through the program and have been very successful in their further studies. Wish you the best!

UW Academy is a bit different from EEP in terms of admissions. Since UW Academy is joint with Robinson Center and the UW Honors Program, and admittees immediately matriculate as UW freshmen, a UW Academy app will actually be reviewed by Robinson Center, Honors Program, and regular UW Admissions, and you have to be admitted to all three to get into the program. To apply you will need a full UW app, honors essay(s), and two to four letters of recommendation. Generally, admitted students have taken rigorous coursework in 9th & 10th grade (APs or equivalent), have very high GPAs (close to 4.0 unweighted), SATs in the top quartile for UW, very strong letters of recommendation, essays that demonstrate college-level writing ability, and the quirks that the Honors Program is looking for (see UW Honors web site).

RC is running a UW Academy info session on campus tomorrow night. It is worth attending this. Also, register ASAP for SAT if you haven’t already if you are applying this year.

Good luck! It is rare to see stats for this program. Consider posting stats if you get in?

So I’ve taken two ACTs to date. My first one was a composite score of 32 with an essay score of 8, while my second one was a composite score of 34 with a (poor) essay score of 7. Which one would be best to send?

I believe UW requires you to send scores for all SAT and ACT tests that you have taken.

When’s the decision letter mailed out?

Good question. DD also applied but no word yet. Please post when you receive a decision letter!

Very nervous/excited! I’m expecting to get in, but I’ll be devastated (kinda) if I don’t. ugh

Good luck, newportkid!

You should hear back by late April/early May. The info session for admitted students is May 8th, and I assume they will give students/parents a heads up at least a week in advance.

still waiting for now

Check your mailbox beginning today. I believe yesterday was the decision mailing date.

DD received “big envelope” today (plain white 9x13 envelope), so decisions were definitely sent out yesterday.

rejected.

I won’t get into the details just yet, but I had a 35 act, awesome essays, and some awesome hooks.
Not sad, but I don’t understand. Anyone have an idea?

What a waste of time. bs

Congrats, @triseradad! Some of my closest friends are acad or eeper students. Do you think she’ll take the offer?
