Robotics

What part of engineering (electric, computer or some other?) is Robotics and which are the best undergrad schools for Robotics?

Computer engineering is probably the usual path.
Either EE, CpE, CS, ME they all contribute to robotics development. You definitely need ME to work out the design (cheesy and wheels, and construction), and EE with CpE to design the eletrical part, and usually CpE work on the programming, but not always the case, it depends on who knows more and who is available. But when you need image vision and processing, and since we are talking about undergraduate, it is done by the upperclassmen who took image processing (usually CS, but some CpE take that class too). Just who has the skill to work on that particular sector…

Look at the school, and see how good its their robotics team.

As far as I know, Carigne Mellon is very very active in robotics. The engineering school has a tradition with its annual robotics event…
But again, there is no “best school for xxxxxxxxx”. You have to work out and find the appropriate resources yourself.

Here is an interesting observation. While CCNY is not as recognize as other HUGE NAME school, our robotics team won the 9th place in the overall for the IGVC 2010. But the CCNY team won the first place in the Design Competition of IGVC 2010.

In 2009 we were 4th.
One of the team members was invited to some youth conference this year early…

So being the top 10 school might be cool, but note that students need to put effort into it. So there is no such thing as “best undergrad schools for robotics”.

We can recommend a few that students are engaged in that particular subject.
