**Rochester 2019 RD Discussion Thread!**

I got an email for the Simons Case Competition last Friday, registered over the weekend and received the case yesterday. The case is actually pretty interesting and seems like it will be fun working on it. So happy I got accepted to it!!! Hopefully this means I stand a chance of getting into UofR. Let’s see what happens…fingers crossed

What is the Simons Case Competition? How does it apply to UofR?

Just to clarify, there is no early notification for people who applied by the scholarship deadline, even if their application has been fully reviewed, right?

I love the whole tracking your application feature and all, but it’s so nerve wracking knowing that they have a decision for you but you won’t be able to know that decision for another 2 months. I think tracking the application would be more useful for schools with rolling admissions.

How do you know there’s a decision? Is that noted, or is it related to the stage?

The stage will change to 5. It is my understanding that it will only state that a decision has been made. It will not tell what the decision is. That will come my mail or email. (I could be wrong)

From last year’s thread it seems that applicants who applied by Dec. 1 got their decisions in mid Feb. and the RD applicants started hearing back in early March. People mostly got to know by snail mail. For some myROC still showed step 3, for others step 5.

I believe the students hearing back in February last year applied ‘priority review’ which had early notification. There is no priority review this year. My daughter applied this year in November and was told she will get her results with everyone else sometime in March.

I was on Collegeweeklive last week with Chris Bierasinski (Admissions Officer) and he stated that decisions for students who applied by December 1, would start hearing by mid February!

Does anyone else feel that’s a little unfair? U of R advertised that they were only doing regular decision, not priority. If priority were a thing, I would have applied by Dec 1, but instead, I chose to perfect my application for another month…

Good to know

Agreed that this is good to know. I applied on Halloween so the thought of having to wait until March seemed like forever to me. February is more doable.

And I don’t think this is unfair. Misleading? Maybe. But definitely not unfair. Priority review gets no admission advantage.

I find misleading to be unfair…
If the school is going to enact a policy, all applicants should have been made aware of it

I was informed earlier in the process that if you got your application prior to December 1, you had a better chance at merit money, so in addition to possibly knowing earlier you will be rewarded monetarily. This info came right from admissions office.

Just moved to step 3 (applied end of December)

My son pushed the button on his application on December 1 because we thought priority review was still a thing, but it was probably around 1130 pm so don’t know if it was considered to be filed by the deadline. Then we subsequently learned that they were not doing priority review. So now we’re not sure what to think. In meantime, he’s been on Stage 3 for over a month.

@Yokennyr‌ The Simons competition is a case study for a potential price money of 60000…they sent out the email in mid December regarding information on how to apply for it.

Just moved from step 2 to step 3 today I applied first week of December. My step 2 reader was Chris Bierasinski.

Does anyone have info on the average merit scholarship given by Rochester to eligible applicants? The biggest issue for me right now is finances, and I don’t qualify for need based aid. From what I’ve researched, Rochester gives merit aid, but no scholarships specifify an amount. So what is common? $7,500? $10,000? $20,000?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks maxprocrast97 got it. My D is interested in medicine, so I guess that’s why I hadn’t heard about it.

Apparently ED2 letters went out yesterday. Any chance those who were early on RD could have been in the mix as we’ll?

How did you find out about the EDII letters?
