How is the surrounding? How is the campus? Ive never been to Rochester before, and I live in NYC. I am expecting a change if i go there, but how much of a change would it be? Ive heard that the winters are harsh etc etc...

How is the campus life though? I need some serious convincing, coz deciding between colleges is hard, so if any of u are proponents of Rochester, then go ahead and convince me to go there...:)....!

You can't even walk to downtown from the campus, but downtown is sort of split into two sections- "The Old" and "The New"...
On the old side you have your old flour mills and it gives it a very rustic feel. The older side (it gets split by a river) has very few tall buildings and is where Kodak is based. Along the river you have all your run down factories (which gives it a pretty neat appearance). On the other side you have your big corp. buildings including Xerox and lots of other skyscrapers.

But since it gets very cold in the winter I have heard that on campus activities are very plentiful. I went up there this weekend and even though today is the last day of classes there was so much stuff to do...

haha please, UR FOR LIFE!!! haha, umm Rochester is a weird city, like it has a bit of everything. When I went there it seemed like you had this business sector where it was just a bunch of Huge buildings and people in suits running around trying to make money, but then you walk to another quarter and it's really serene with a good deal of cafes, restaurants, coffee shops, very touristy and welcoming. LIke there is definitely a good environment there, with a great social scene (clubs, shops, restaurants, festivals, etc) but the over-all feel that i got from current students is that a.) You live in a bubble campus of u of R, so basically there is soooo much to do on campus that it's not really necessary to go into the city to look for fun. but if you do go a good deal b.) it will satiate your needs of fun activity for say the first two years or so, then by your senior year you will start to feel apathetic about it.

What schools are you considering of in the competition between UR .. Send me an IM or something, or email, i'm pretty sure I can convince you to come :)

best of luck.

If you go up there, go to the distillery... Awesome rest.!
According to my cousin (who ironically works at RIT) said Dinosaur BBQ is very good

yeah, I prefer the distillery though its a little bit calmer environment.....eat a garbage plate or Howie special ! haha
