Hi, guys! I am admitted by University of Rochester and Boston College. UR gives me the Deans' Scholarship; however, I am also admitted to Carroll School of Management at Boston College. I intended to major in accounting and finance in the future.
But at the moment I am a little confused because the teacher:student ratio in UR is 1:9, but in BC is 1:13. I prefer a smaller class! And as far as I know, more people know about UR then those who know BC in my country. By the way, money is not a problem, I just want to have a better education.
I have 2 questions:
1) What about the academic reputation of BC and Carroll School of Management in United States?
2) I've got waitlist from Georgetown, the McDough School of Business. If, I mean if, Georgetown gives me admission later, which should I choose? Someone said Gtown is not good at business, is that right?

up!uP!any suggestions??

UR doesn’t have accounting or finance majors.

Yfh - Welcome to CC and congratulations on your excellent options! It’s interesting that you feel UR is better known in your country because in the U.S., I’d think that BC would be far better known than Rochester. In which country do you live?

I live in Shanghai, China! What about the acedemic reputation of BC in US?

It’s very highly regarded in the U.S., though I don’t know how you might feel about its identity as a Catholic university.

I don’t mind it at all. Actually, i love to learn more about the Catholic culture! But how about the class size? It is much like a public school

“And as far as I know, more people know about UR then those who know BC in my country.”

Since you will have to go home after any visa extensions for practical training, you might be better off at UR if it will mean that you can get a job in your home country.

The teacher-student ratios are meaningless unless you can find out what they will be for the classes that you will take. Both of these places have sub-forums. You could ask about class size for your major there: [Alphabetic List of Colleges - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/alphabetic-list-colleges/)

Rochester is probably better known because it a science powerhouse, and great for premed. Does UoR even offer undergrad biz? (You shouldn’t choose a school that does not offer your major, particularly if you are interested in commerce/business.)

Undergrad biz is mostly regional. There is little difference between the academics at Georgetown vs. Boston College. The academic “education” would be similar. Two great cities, with plenty of international students. Of course, Boston has literally dozens of colleges in and about.

I would guess, and its only a guess, that GU has larger international prestige, due to its Foreign Service School. If so, then prestige would be the tipping point to accept their offer off of the WL (since prestige is HUGE internationally).

For business, you can’t go wrong with BC.

MANY Thanks to everyone! I have paid my deposit to BC because UR does not have undergrad biz! I think it will be a great experience in BC, right?

You will have a great experience! Best wishes for much success at BC!

BC is a wonderful college, and Boston is a great city in which to spend four years. Congrats and enjoy.

Thanks everybody!

I am big fan of UR but the others were right that, for business undergrad, BC is the way to go. Congratz! Just one advice: watch our for the arrogant Harvard people :)) j/k.

haha! I will watch out those guys! I have got a final question: is Carroll School of Management highly respected in the U.S.? I think the reputation would be a great help when I look for internship in the summer vacation.

From what I know CSOM is very respectable, at least up here in New England it is. Glad you chose BC, I’ll see you there this Fall!

as an international, it will be more difficult to gain a job in the US (due to visa issues), but Carroll won’t hold you back.

HAHA! See you then in BC, Kcombs! And thanks to everybody!
