ROCHESTER v SYRACUSE v FORDHAM

Accepted into rochester and fordham undecided, and newhouse/arts and sciences (dual degree-undecided) at syracuse, I must decide between the 3. I want to eventually major in liberal arts or a social science while taking pre-med classes. However, at syracuse I would do this in the college of arts and sciences while having a separate major at newhouse. I would either like to become a doctor or journalist and cannot decide between the 2 careers.

If you have any advice about which college to choose or on the career paths in general, please share!

*all would be roughly the same price for me.

First thing is first, have you visited any of the schools you got accepted too?

If you didn’t then I would advise you too. I have been to Syracuse and spent the night on campus because of the summer college program I was in up their. I loved the campus and the environment. I am also from NYC so I am used to the weather. I have also seen fordham and love their campuses too. I have never been to Rochester so I can’t tell you anything about their.

My opinion will be biase because I love Syracuse but hands down I would say Syracuse.

But please do a campus visit and talk to some of the current students who are their. I think they are the best ones to help you.

I’m impressed that Roch would be roughly the same price! well, Fordham has a unique location that is distinct from Upstate NY, so I think you need to decide what kind of environment you want there. between SU and U of R (I’m an SU student but live in Roch and both my parents are U of R alumni), it depends on how you value experience vs education…at U of R you’re likely to get a better pre-med track, but internships will be a lot harder to come by because Strong is so prestigious as a research hospital. At SU, the pre med track would be less intense (can be good or bad), but you’d have a lot more opportunity to intern in one of the local hospitals–there are a ton, including a new pediatric wing (ironically, paid for by Rochester’s Tom Golisano)–and I don’t know anyone who’s looked for a position here and hasn’t gotten one.

Rochester is a very pretty, traditional campus, whereas Syracuse has a more modern feel…depends on whether or not you prefer regattas to basketball! =D
