Hi.

I listen to music. Lots of it. Mostly rock - alternative, indie, acoustic, classic, hardcore, even some punk and emo.

Which colleges are conveniently located near concerts?

Thanks,
nectarine.

Well, any college located in or near a large city should have a great music scene catering to a wide variety of tastes.

You must have an impressive transcript, if you can base your decision on concert locations.

If you like emo, you're both in the right place. The west coast seems to be its breeding ground.

UC Berkeley might be a good fit. My friend's dorm is right next to the Greek Amphitheater, so she gets a free concert everytime she leaves her window open.

UT Austin

Berkeley

NYU

UMICH has a lot of good rock concerts.

NYU is perfect for the concert-goer. Except, I'm starting to go broke and not be able to afford going to any more shows.

When I saw that Bayside played at SUNY Oswego I almost cried. It doesn't help that that's my number 2 choice and they probably will never play there again.

But yeah about your question. Being from NYC I know there's a whole lot of shows here, so NYU, Columbia, St.Francis, St.John's, CUNY's etc gives you access to the Knitting Factory, Roseland Ballroom, etc etc.

Any of the colleges in the consortium in Amherst/Northampton, MA. For not being a big city, alot of really cool people play there. Not only is it a great college town, but Smith and especially Hampshire are "known" for attracting more fringe types; thus, more fringe musicians. :) Ani Difranco played there. Not that you like Ani Difranco, but I do.

wouldn't hurt to ask though, now would it? : )
if i were a big art person, perhaps a college's distance to art galleries would be a biggie. if i enjoyed writing, perhaps i'd want to be near large publishing institutions. etc.

my "transcript" isn't everything.
but thanks.

Nothing wrong with looking for a place that will interest you socially. My son is in Boston, been to some concerts including tickets for one next week for his birthday. Any larger city will have what you are looking for. The Northampton/Amherst lot has music too as previous poster suggested but it is NOT an urban environment.

I'll second UT-Austin. Does South By Southwest mean anything to you?

Haha I have the same criteria as you lol.
Anywhere near a big city really. NYC, Boston, LA, San Fran
