How accurate is RocketScore? I wrote a practice essay and automatically got a score of 12. I am concerned that my score is based solely on the length, not its organization, examples, and so on.

I keep scoring 12s on essays using RocketScore program. Is it accurate or just a fluke?

I have found that RocketScore sometimes overestimates the essay score. I would have it read by an expert human instead. If you'd like, you can post it here and I can tell you the score it deserves.

People do not confuse appearances with reality. Though people may have hallucinations and false illusions, their illusions often come true in reality. There are a proficiency of examples thorough literature and history to illustrate this point clearly.

One illustration of illusions representing reality occurs in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Chief narrates about a janitor cutting a mental patient's body open and exposing the patient's wires in his body. This confuses the readers because they do not understand whether or not this is really happening or just a dream. Although Chief is just dreaming this situation, the mental patient actually dies the next morning. Chief's dream may be bizarre, but it contains meanings and symbols that represent the mental ward in reality. It shows that mental patients are controlled by the Nurse and therefore are seen as robots. This is why Chief dreams of the mental patient's metal body and wires contained in it.

The theme that illusions come out true in reality also illustrated throughout William Gordon's Lord of the Flies. The boys, stranded on the island during the World War I, are left without adults and authority. Therefore, despite Ralph's efforts to maintain democracy and to keep boys obedient, the boys been transferred from civilization to barbarism. They have been scared of the "beast", which they believe exists on the island, waiting to eat all of them. With moral values, perceptions of young boys, and knowledge of older boys, Simon is able to talk to the "beast" and realizes that the beast is not the animal but is within the boys themselves. Gordon shows that the "beast" the boys are scared of is inside themselves because they became more cruel and greedy with food and hunting.

The theme of theme is not limited to literary examples; we see this immutable principle illustrated throughout history, too. Joan of Arc is known as a brave, strong girl who helps France defeating the British in the war. She receives all the illusions and voices about the war and what she is supposed to do. Because of her illusions and "voices", she knows exactly what to do in the war and becomes one of the best warriors. Without her illusions that come true in reality, Joan of Arc would not help her country win its freedom and independence from Britain.

As we have seen with these literary and historical examples, people do not confuse appearances with reality. This has been illustrated through One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, where Chief dreaming of another patient's metal body exposing its wires and the patient actually dies in reality the next morning. This theme is illustrated throughout Lord of the Flies that shows the "beast" within the boys themselves. Finally, the point is also illustrated in history of Joan of Arc.

I have a hunch that RocketScore scores the essay only on its length. I strongly believe that it deserves a score that is less than 12 (I am always being hard on myself).

Any comments will be appreciated.

Whoops, I found my mistake. 1st sentence of 3rd paragraph: "The theme of theme is not limited to literary examples; we see this immutable principle illustrated throughout history, too. "

Revision: "The theme of illusions representing reality is not limited to literary examples; we see this immutable principle illustrated throughout history, too. "

Second, why is that many people view this post and don't post a single comment? Is it because they don't know the topic? Is my essay confusing? (Just a secret between you and me- I had no idea what I was talking about- my essay is just a piece of crap. That's why I am asking for your opinion- what score should it get?)

nice eg's, but i don't like the intro/conc as much 5/6

Yeah, me 2. I used Grammatix's stradegy to write the introduction ( 1)answer the question in the first statement, 2) use a contadiction "though" and 3) then say that I have examples). Mike's way of writing a conclusion didn't make any sense to me, so I kinda elaborated on it. But, Mike said that he used this stradegy on his SAT essay and got a 12.

For the last time, any more comments/suggestions?
