FYI -- I know nothing about the program... but I was looking at Rockford College (Illinois) for a friend of mine, and noticed that they have a BFA in Musical Theatre. It is an auditioned program. The school is small, and the program is in the department of Performing Arts... they have degrees in music, musical theatre, and theatre.

I don't know anything about them either, but I've added them to the Big List.

Thanks -- Like I said, I was researching the school for a friend who has nothing to do with MT, but while I was on the website I thought I would look at the Theatre Dept., and found that they had the BFA in MT. :)

One of my daughter's friends from high school, the only other person in her class this year who is going for a musical theater major in college, will be starting at Rockford College this year. I don't know much about it yet, except it is a very small program, was quite interested in recruiting him as they told him they were really looking for boys (big surprise), and he feels there will be lots of opportunities in Chicago, and for summerstock (he thinks they take the kids to MUNY auditions and maybe somewhere else in Wisconsin or Minnesota?). I'll be glad to post more about his experiences as I hear updates about how his freshman year goes.

I live only 30-45 minutes north of Rockford...unfortunately I am not familiar with the program. So sorry I can not contribute, but will keep my ears peeled as my Ss are working with several actors from Rockford/Chicago/Milwaukee/Minneapolis area this summer.

My S is attending Rockford College this fall in their MT BFA program, he is one of 8 Freshman in the program, there are 3 boys this yr. He is very happy there so far. He has a strong background in dance and I know that they are trying to build this part of their program. I am happy with his choice, close to Chicago, lots of opportunity to perform, small group with lots of support.

This theatre world proves to be a small one at that. See my post #5? Well that is history!! Turns out my sons were in two equity productions this summer with the wife of the recently retired head of the theatre BFA program at Rockford College....Rufus Cadigan. In fact I had the pleasure of meeting him and chatting with him prior to a show.

Rockford College also has a professional company that works on campus...in fact we are going to one of their shows this coming weekend. Artist's Ensemble is an incredible talented bunch of equity/non-equity actors which I hope in time get to know better. Here is the link to their website: http://www.artistsensemble.org/index.html

anyone has more info about Rockford University? I’m thinking about applying there.
