Who will win?

Personally my money's on Roger, however if Roddick serves and performs ground strokes like he did with Murray I think he has a shot.

Personally my money's on Roger, however if Roddick serves and performs ground strokes like he did with Murray I think he has a shot.

RODDICK
Even though hes lost against federer for the past 17 games I think it is now?
Roddick just has to keep his emotions in check, because thats what helps Roger win; mind games. It creeps me out.

I want Roddick to win, but I think Federer will end up winning…again:( I am hoping Roddick makes the game go past three sets, but his record against Federer says it all 2-18

Obviously Federer is going to win.

Pity, I was rooting for Murray.

winner: fed in 4 sets.

Federer… He always wins

roddick sucks. he’s slow. all he has is his serve. i wish we Americans had a different elite tennis player . . . someone with hustle or tactics. Agassi was pretty awesome.

I’ve got 90-10, Federer wins.

Roddick’s return has improved, but it is still not very good at all. Federer has been serving ridiculously well, even second serves, and Roddick will really need to hope he can do a decent job at returning.

Roddick’s backhand has indeed improved, but again, it still isn’t very good. And Federer’s forehand really outclasses Roddick’s, especially because Roddick’s forehand has changed since 04/05 and lacks the penetration it once had. Because of Roddick’s lack of power, Federer’s GOAT mobility will really allow him to attack, defend, and transition between offense/defense really well.

Now as for the serve…Federer is the best returner in the game. Period. Federer is just so good at getting the ball back with a chip, playing some defense, and then transitioning to offense. Karlovic is the only guy that can make Federer struggle on the return. Federer reads Roddick’s serve really well too, meaning Roddick won’t get as many aces/unreturnables. And he isn’t a freak like Karlovic who gets crazy angles either. Meanwhile, Federer is an amazing server himself and because of Roddick’s poor returning ability, he can get a lot of free points.

The head to head shows all this; Federer leads 18-2. Ouch.

The big question is all in the head. I doubt Federer is going to have an issue; Roddick is not Nadal. But he still has some pressure to break Sampras’ record. Roddick meanwhile, needs to get past his past losses to Federer and really come out without any pressure in him, and really come out swinging like today against Murray. If he can do that, who knows?..he could do it if everything goes for him.

solid analysis. good post.

I think it is also worth mentioning that Federer is much better at moving around on the court.

Federer.

Federer has a better serve (Roddick’s is faster, but Fed has better percentage and better percentage of 1st serve points won), a better forehand, a better backhand, better volleys, better footwork, more experience, and dominates Roddick head to head.

I want Roddick to win, but I think Federer definitely will. I’m not very informed on tennis though. I gave up watching pretty much when I gave up playing.

Whatever happened to Rafi?

He withdrew from the tournament. He’s got knee problems.

Tendinitis in his knee. The way he plays it was inevitable. He’ll be back eventually, but I’m not sure for how long.

Aww, I really like him.

I thought he was pretty boring. The ultimate clay court player, but it’s annoying when an opponent always gets a ton of unforced errors.

What? The guy is hustle incarnate. He isn’t really much of a pusher either–he can go on the attack as well.

Just looking at the 2008 Wimbledon Final Stats

Federer won 204 points with 195 service points, and he had 52 unforced errors.
Nadal won 209 points with 218 service points, and he had 27 unforced errors.

Not to take anything away from his shot making ability, but he won because he could be behind in a point and just keep getting the ball back across until Federer made a mistake. I just find Federer’s style (and other top players) a lot more enjoyable to watch.

He is more of a defensive player, but I wouldn’t say that

is his game plan. He can turn around points and make shots.

I guess it is just a difference in taste. I really don’t like to watch Roddick or the Williams sisters play because there is no subtlety in it. It’s all about hitting the ball hard, getting ahead in the point and hammering a forehand winner. There is no turning the point around. Once they are behind in a point, they are sunk.

Women’s tennis in general sucks. Safina loses 0 and 1? The only players worth mentionare are the Williams sisters and Dementieva. Shame Henin retired…she was the only non-crazy baseline basher.

I enjoy watching Nadal play and his hustle. Hustle makes for very exciting tennis, and there is nothing better than watching a ridiculous shot on the dead run.

And I think a lot of people underestimate Nadal’s offense. His “defense” is deceptively aggressive, as his shots almost always make the opponent uncomfortable with all the heavy spin. But that forehand is truly an amazing shot; he hits some of the sickest angles, and his inside out one almost looks like he makes it twist to the side. Once Nadal can step into the court and dictate play, he is a monster offensively.

[YouTube - Nadal-_-Verdasco*Highlights09)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg1zgLWo6nI&feature=related)

Here is some absolutely sick stuff from Nadal and Verdasco. My favorite is 4:05, which shows Nadal’s ability to put some ridiculous spin on the ball. 6:55 really displays Nadal’s defense.

I think Federer will probably win. but we’ll seee
