Hi fellow CCers! :)
First, congratulations are in order for everyone accepted to UVA! Wahoowa!

I just have a small question, but I am under the impression that Echols/Rodman/College Scholars notices have already been sent out today.

Unfortunately, I was not sent an email from the Rodman program (I was accepted to the engineering school, early action round).
I'm wondering..are these decisions regarding the scholars programs done for all early action applicants? I ask this in the sense that does this mean that the people who run these scholars programs will not look at the EA students again for the class of 2016 this year for (perhaps another) consideration (maybe as they look over the regular decision students)?

I am so grateful to have been accepted to UVA, but my somewhat helicopter-esque dad told me last night he expected me to make it into the Rodman program.
I do know I can definitely apply for the program as a first year (after my first semester (?) I believe?), but at this point, I am fretting a bit.

I’m in the same boat too. (in-state!)
I hope they have second chances, I’d really like the whole same dormitory/specialized seminars Rodman offers.

Best of luck/looking forward to see what everyone else says.

I was accepted to the Echols scholars program for arts and sciences and was pleasantly surprised; I really had never considered it. Anyone else accepted to Echols? PM me, I’d love to talk to someone about what’s going on…

h1lbert, there is a thread about Echols floating around here or you can PM me if you have any questions about the program.

I’m not sure if there will be anymore offers; I will let Dean J clarify that. I would just like to let you know that from my current Rodman friends (I’m an Echols Scholar so I live with them), the Rodman program isn’t a tremendous perk. Actually, they say that, currently, it’s more of a pain, but we’re only First-Years. The only major difference is that they have a specific, required ENGR class First-Year. I’m sure there are other differences, but that’s the only one that my friends have come across. I wouldn’t fret about it too much. Unfortunately, the Rodman program is very small (~30 people). Since you’ve been accepted EA I’m sure that if you decide to matriculate, you’ll still flourish in the academic environment you’re placed in regardless of Scholar status! Congrats on your acceptance and you can PM me if you have specific questions.

Thank you for responding, 10iswarrior (hah! I just got your name! :D)

Really? Wow only ~30 people? They must be quite a rarity, haha.
I have calmed down a bit now, haha, and thanks for the congratulations.

And arafya, those special seminars sound pretty amazing too.
I do hope for reconsideration again.
I actually took my SAT after the EA deadline and got a pretty good score. I thought it was unnecessary to send it in (yeah I’m kind of stringent about money) to UVA because my ACT score was pretty decent + sent, but I’m wondering if it would help me out IF there are any second chances later for Rodman.

Either way, I’m going to send in the SAT score to UVA so that I can get out of the freshman writing requirement, hah.

My Rodman friend is in the same room as I am and she just said that they added about 5 students mid-year. So you can apply to the program halfway through your First-Year if you want.
