I got the mail today and it said that I was selected as a Rodman scholar. Apparently it is a honors program for engineering...

I was just wondering how good a program that is. I live in MD, so I dont know much about UVA. Is it really prestigious or something? Or do I get some sort of merit aid along with it?

I'm in the program, but I am only a first year, and I am transferring to the college so I wont be as much help as I would like to be.

Its prestigious, the equivalent of Echols for the college. The kids are selected from the top 5% of incoming apps. You all have to live together in New Dorms, which is a cool experience, and you get early class registration, which is probably the best thing ever your first couple of years. Other than that theres not too much... its a nice pat on the back.

Every now and then things come up for Rodmans, like special research grants or things that they feel we would benefit from. They open them up to Rodmans first before anyone else.

The first year schedule is also a little different and a little less flexible, but it opens your options up more for future years. Also Dana Elzy is probably one of the coolest people ever, he is the director of the program and advisor to many of the Rodmans. He is a fantastic advisor and a really nice guy. Hes a huge asset to the program.
