Rodriguez scholarship

Anyone willing to post their stats if they won a Rodriguez scholarship? Haven't seen much about this one.

I didn’t win the scholarship yet (it’s announced in April), but I got selected as one of the finalists to attend the Finalists’ weekend at WUSTL.

My stats are:
2250+ SAT
3.9 GPA UW (no Weighted in my school). Got A’s in classes that relate to what i want to study at WUSTL.
EC: student govenment, multiple positions, started new things in school (like 3 projects and 1 tradition that has been on going since last year)
sports - unusual ones, founder of a sports club
some model congress/mun
had a small business during high school

i won’t be specific because of privacy concerns, but all that i can say is I dont think my stats got me selected as a finalist. as you can see in the other scholarships thread, there are so many people with 2250+ SAT and 3.9 GPA. my essay was about living in different countries, and i think this helped me get selected because the purpose of the rodriguez scholarship is to enhance diversity and unity within different cultures. also, recommendation letters playa big role, too.

Finally - someone that understands that while stats are important, they are not the ultimate criteria in selecting scholarship recipients.

Im a finalist… here are my stats…

So happy when I found out. Im mostly likely coming here. I wasnt shocked though- they paid for me to come to Discovery Weekend and they gave me a student contact whos a current rodriguez scholar to email me periodically. I worried about my ecs lacking a “diversity” component, but I think they saw how my EMT practice is all about helping others and I wrote about that in my essays. I also visited before getting the paid visit and loved it, so they know I have a genuine interest. Life is good.

Thank you for sharing your stats. My D applied but was rejected. Had similar stats and actually started the first diversity club for kids from varying backgrounds at her HS. Spent the summer teaching english to kids in Costa Rica and then helped create a dietary brochure for patients from Latin cultures to help them reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease by using healthy alternative ingredients. She did this as an intern in a health wellness program.
Guess that wasnt enough though. Congrats to all who are finalists. Hope that she will meet you in the fall. (she was accepted ED but didnt apply for the scholarship until the RD deadline; wonder if that worked against her?)

Congratulations to all the finalists, and let me say that anyone who did not receive the scholarship or is not a finalist should not lament it since it is an EXTREMELY competitive process. I am a freshman Rodriguez scholar, so if there are any other questions regarding the program, feel free to post them.

^acolombianp28: i’m a rodriguez finalist this year, and i was wondering if you had any tips for how to prepare for the interview/learn more about the scholarship?

I was also selected as a finalist for the Rodriguez scholarship. Does this mean we’ve been admitted to WASHU?

acolombianp28, I have also been selected as a finalist. Is everyone who becomes a finalist receive some sort of scholarship and definitely part of the program if he/she attends wash u? Also, if selected as a Rodriguez scholar, what does this program entail? What kinds of things did you do your freshman year?
