Role of RAs at Colgate

My boyfriend's at Brown and there, RCs exist only to help freshmen transition to college life. They facilitate get to know you games, hand out condems etc. Some of my other friends at other schools (Ithaca etc.) report that they, and their friends, have RAs intent on busting any drinking, reporting any misdemeanor and generally "clamping down". While their is definetly individual variation, which aproach is more typical at Colgate?

The first approach.

First approach. Pl-enty of drinking in those freshmen dorms...

I would say that it more of a mix between the two. Most of the time your RA fits in with the first approach, especially when they are not on duty on the weekends. When they are on duty, they will write you up, but most of the time you would have to be doing some really stupid. I would also add than I did not really know my RA that well. Neither of us made the effort.

The RA from other dorms will write you up if they are patrolling your dorm. They are much less forgiving in general than your RA. Most people who are written up are written up by another RA than their own.
