Please clarify. Are there rolling admissions for students who are in the top 10% of their class who apply to honors programs or is it just important to get applications in in time for the deadline?

Well there is rolling admissions for top ten percent kids period. The only rolling admissions I know of for NON top ten percent kids are for those who apply for honors early. But if you don’t apply by the deadline you lose the benefit of the top ten law and won’t be accepted by the school.

Okay so in order for the top 10% rule to count applications need to be submitted by the designated deadlines, in order to have the best advantage to get admitted to an honors program applications should be in ASAP. Do I have this right?

Well some honors programs notify kids on a rolling basis, buy you have the same chance regardless of when you apply because the criteria is the same.

Do you know if Plan II notifies on a rolling basis? If so, is it at all beneficial to apply earlier (since they have a target class-size)?

Yes they do notify on a rolling basis, but it isn’t beneficial at all because they use the same criteria. So you’d find out earlier, but with the same stats it doesn’t matter when you apply. If you aren’t Plan II material, it doesn’t matter if you apply early or late, you won’t get in. However, they also defer a lot of kids, so take this into mind. You may apply in October and not hear back until March.
