When is Rolling Admission better than Early Action? I want to apply to Ohio State, however I feel like if I apply in Early October, I would have a better chance with rolling admission, since they would look at my application right after it came in. I think I would have to wait until November 1st for Early Action.
I don’t think you have a choice between rolling and EA for Ohio State. When I looked at the Ohio State website I only see EA and RD. I do think the EA decisions come out on a rolling basis.
I don’t recall ever seeing a school offer a choice between Rolling Admissions or EA. If you want to apply to a school that offers EA, then apply EA. Generally I am a believer in applying early either way.
My S is applying to OSU. In Common App, it is clearly listing two options to choose from: Early Action and Rolling Admission.
I am confused too. Which option is better? Rolling Admission seems like a better option, but I could be wrong. Any inputs?
I don’t have access to the common app question for OSU anymore since my son has already submitted his application. You might want to review the OSU admissions website under “Know the Deadlines” where it spells out their difference between Early Action and Regular Decision.

I believe that if you apply RD before the EA deadline it automatically reverts to EA. If it’s after the Nov 1 deadline it’s RD
I don’t know why the app lists rolling admission and early action as two separate admissions options. I assume that Early Action applies to the Nov 1 deadline for consideration for merit scholarships. Their own website lists only Early Action and Regular Decision as their two admissions options

I would suggest that if you are planning to apply before Nov 1 that you pick Early Action. Otherwise pick Rolling Admissions. If you apply before Nov. 1 and pick Rolling Admissions you will NOT hear a response before Nov 1. OSU does not release any responses before late November.
