Anyone can tell me how it works?
Why is it that the faster you apply, the higher chance you have?

b/c spots fill up so it's harder to get in later

Well, Michigan's rolling admissions isn't a "true" rolling admissions system, in the sense that they only accept students that are very qualified (top 25%) at the beginning, and defer the rest.

My High School had 250 applicants to Michigan. Only 25% were accepted right off the bat, and the others were all deferred (we're talking about the 25-75 percentile people here). 50% of the deferred applicants were later admitted.

So while you should apply early, unless your grades are off the charts, they will likely defer you, wait for other, more qualified applicants to come (likely Ivy league students using Michigan as a safety), and hope that they can get these Ivy-caliber students instead.

so should i wait for my SAT II results (taking november)? Or is that a bit late?

they dont look at sat2 results fyi.

actually how would you classify "ivy league students usuing michiagna as saefty"?

As in, students who have above a 3.85, 1450 SAT, who are shooting for the prestigious universities. They want a top 15 school, with a low acceptance rate (below 30%) and see Michigan as a backup plan to their desired school.

goodness...

i have a 1500, never had a C in my transcript and i'm not even wanting to look at the ivies...

Well, a 1500 and a 2.66 wouldn't get you in, LOL, if you get all B-'s :)

I have no ambition to go to an ivy league school, and even if I got accepted to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc, i'd turn it down. It's just not "me".

I am with you Awolves. Hoedown also touched on it. This forum is Ivy obsessed, but most top students do not want to attend Ivies because they want a more down to Earth experience. I applied to four Ivies, but if I knew then what I know now, I would probably have applied to just 2 of those Ivies and even then, I would have picked Michigan over them.

argh. i love michigan...(partly thanks to Alex!) but SAT isnt here till OCTOBER! cries

i have a question!
If i sent in my app. in but incomplete, because i have to take the ACT on Oct. 22, will U-M still take a look at application and make a decision or they are going to wait till i have EVERYTHING in?
Somebody answer this question!

The way I understand it ... they won't start looking at your application until your file is complete.

it's a sad thing, febrabbit. one dumb test score delaying everything.

Well, it's one dumb test score, but it's part of the required elements of the application.

Everyone is treated the same in this regard--you have to get all the pieces in before your application will be forwarded to a reader for evaluation.

well, i have my SAT scores but they are kind of Low, so i want to take the ACT on OCT 22 and see how i will do. however, do u think i should sent in my application with the low SAT scores and see if they will defer OR should i just wait for the ACT score to come out then sent in the application?
